IRQL/ elxstor.sys is having a memory leak Corsair Vengeance Memory

Afternoon all,

New to this and a bit of a layperson so bare with me!?

I've recently done a new build with the above components. I've had the latest BIOS update to cater for the bulldozer processor. The problem I'm having is a blue screen crash prior to the OS starting when 4x4Gb memory modules are installed;

IRQL issues, elxstor.sys trying to execute to non executable memory!!??

Windows starts up with 2x4gb (8gb) no probs it's only when I try and use all the memory slots.

The motherboard and memory are compatible apparently, I've scanned the sticks with memtest86 together and individually with no errors. And mem checked the mb with detects them all fine. I've also checked the voltage (at least I think I have?) and the BIOS has all the settings auto running which matches the 1.5v the sticks require.

Its been suggested that this is some sort of driver issue however I can't find anything useful from corsair or Asus.

Can anyone shed any light I'm, at a bit of a loss!

how long did you run memtest? because a single pass simply will not do. Let it run overnight to give it a real go, what you are describing is most likely bad ram, if it was a memory leak due to a bad/corrupt file then reformatting the computer would fix the problem.

I ran 4 passes on the 4 modules then approx 1 on each individually (and numbered them so I didn't forget!). Will that show up any errors?

plus the system runs on 8gb with any combo of memory modules. Is there also a chance that memtest isn't fool proof or is it more likely another issue. It's also a clean build with new components.

Just out of curiosity... Are you installing a 64bit version of windows?

You'll need to post the Dump file(s), open the Event Manager an look at the [+] Critical errors. The elxstor.sys 'file' itself my be corrupted and the memory happenstance. I also assume that you're using both the latest BIOS (0901) and drivers per ASUS for your Win 7x64 -> http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3Plus/M5A99X_EVO/#download

note: If you update you BIOS then ONLY use ASUS EZ Flash 2 ; see -> http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/289507-30-what-flash

I'd set the RAM manually in the BIOS:
Load Optimized Defaults
Memory Frequency -> DDR3-1600
DRAM Timing Control /Enter
DRAM CAS -> 9
DRAM RAS to CAS -> 9
DRAM RAS PRE -> 9
DRAM RAS ACT -> 24

DRAM Command Rate -> 2N
-
DRAM Voltage -> 1.55v ; 4 sticks generally a good idea to +0.05v

Save & Exit = Yes
