[SOLVED] Is 3.1 USB port bound by 3.0 speed in my laptop?

I have MSI GE62VR Apache Pro laptop. I was looking into my USB ports to understand whether my USB-C port is 3.1 Gen2.
I have a few questions:
  1. As I understand correctly from the screenshots below, it seems that I have a 3.1 Controller which is bound by 3.0 version? Does this mean that the speed is limited by 5Gbps which is less then the 3.1 Gen2 speed (10Gbps)?
  2. Why the 3.1 Controller is listed under the Chipset and the 3.0 Controller is by itself?
  3. Why would MSI put an Intel Controller for the 3.0 and the AMD Controller for 3.1 and not the same for both of them?

Windows is multi platform, contains all the generic drivers to cover just about anything. It doesn't pick and choose according to what you have, so will load everything.

You have a 3.1 port, but that doesn't necessarily mean it always operates at 3.1 standards, sometimes you'll plug stuff in that requires a 3.0 driver instead, so both are loaded.

First of all, you're wrong! 3.1 Gen 2, which is now called 3.2 Gen 2, is 10Gb/s! Check before you answer. So, delete your answer to not confuse others please!
Secondly, your answer is not even close to any of my questions!

First, you must think back. It's called USB 3.2 Gen1 or Gen2 NOW, in the past when that board was built it was 3.0 and 3.1, there was NO Gen1 or Gen2 until later, and that was then changed again.

It was a typo, it was supposed to say 3.0, 3.1, 3.1Gen1 as was referring to how it was labeled when those drivers were created and named, you'll have to trust that nobody goes back through the masses of crap to rename stuff like drivers or update website definitions etc.

Secondly, I'm on mobile and the post wasn't complete, I got interrupted, so chill out, you aren't affected one way or the other.

I understand why "USB Root Hub (USB 3.0)" is listed under "Intel USB 3.0 eExtensible Host Controller". But, I do NOT understand why "USB Root Hub (USB 3.0)" is listed under "AMD USB 3.1 eXtensible Host Controller". I haven't plugged anything to that USB-C 3.1 port yet. It confuses me.

Yeah, the USB forum created a super crazy confusion with the USB naming scheme!
Everything was logical from USB 1.0 to USB 3.0.
Starting USB 3.1 we have a mess!

FYI, originally the 5Gb/s was only called USB3.0. Later on, USB3.1 came out with the 10Gb/s spec. Later, what was called USB3.0 was absorbed into USB3.1 standards as gen. 1. The 10Gb/s was gen. 2.

USB is a tree structure as it enumerates. If a device at the end node can't operate at the speed of the next HUB up the line, then the HUB backs off in speed rather than rejecting the device. Plugging a USB3.1 gen. 2 device into a USB3.1 gen. 1 slot (a.k.a. USB3.0), then the device slows down. In the reverse, if you plug a USB3.1 gen. 1 device into a USB3.1 gen. 2 HUB, then the HUB will slow to USB3.1 gen. 1 (a.k.a. USB3.0).

The above is entirely based on "specs". In the case of a USB3.1 gen. 2 device on a USB3.1 gen. 2 HUB (matching specs with no need to alter speeds), if the signal quality is insufficient, then both device and HUB will back down to USB3.1 gen. 1 speeds (a.k.a., USB3.0). If the device is capable of backing down to USB2, and if signal quality is even worse, then the device will drop to USB2 speeds (not all devices with USB3 can operate at USB2, e.g., some stereo cameras must run at their rated speed).

At times an entire HUB will back down to a lower speed if any device is not the full speed spec and if the HUB is cheap enough to not have a "Transaction Translator" ("TT"). The TT is responsible for allowing a multi-port HUB to run at slower speeds on just that port without making the entire HUB slow down on all ports. Most likely the integrated root HUB has whatever TT it might need, so that is unlikely a problem, but it is possible an external cheap HUB lacks having a TT on each port (it might be single TT instead of multi TT). Overall it is likely you don't need to worry about the TT in your question.

I don't know if your case is backing down to USB3.0/USB3.1-gen1 due to signal quality, or if perhaps the driver is only for the slower spec. If you were to boot into Linux (perhaps with a Live distribution you can run on a thumb drive rather than installing permanently), then you could use a combination of "lsusb -t" (tree view, lists speeds), and "sudo lsusb -vvv" (verbose non-tree mode) and post what you see. These will instantly tell you why a port is running at a particular speed...it will tell you if a device is not capable of a higher speed, and it will tell you if the device is running at some slower speed due to inheriting that speed from another part of the chain not capable of higher speeds.
