Is it ok to put a flat case on end?

My system is in a case that lies flat. It would save me a lot of space, though, if I could flip it on end. But, is that bad for a system?

Nope, no problem at all, except that you might have trouble trying to stick a CD in your CD-ROM, other than that, it's the same thing.

You can also scope around for CD-ROM drives that will accept sitting sideways. They dispense with the tray and use a mechanism much like your car CD player instead. We have them installed on several of our rack mounted servers and they work nicely.
