Hello there ,
I want to upgrade my current system :
-Intel i5 6600k
-Asus z170-a
-2x8GB Kingston 2666 MHz
-gtx 970
-evga 750 W platinum
-1 ssd nvme m2 256 GB
-3 HDD
So I would like to change the processor , the ssd just to buy with more capacity and eventually the GPU . So my question is should I buy i9 9900k which is and will be the latest Processor for my socket or change the combo cpu-motherboard to an AMD's one ?
Thank you very much for your time .
I am open to any suggestion.

Your 6600k is a 6th generation CPU. The 9900k is 9th gen CPU. It will not work in your motherboard. The best CPU your board can use is an i7-7700k which is 7th generation and you'd probably need a bios update for it to work. I don't recommend spending...

Better to get a new board and new generation CPU.

Either a new Intel like a 10600k or 10700k with a Z490 board or a new AMD Ryzen 5600x or 5800x with an x570 board. You could probably use the memory you have now with a new Intel platform although faster memory would be better but a new AMD will definitely require new, faster memory.

Thank you very much for enlighten me because i thought the only think you should consider is the socket for compatibility between CPU and Motherboard .
I guess know I will make my homework to assemble a new PC.
