Is this build ok?

Hello Everyone,

In the past I received very very helpful information when building my HTPC from these forums. So I return again for more questions/comments/concerns on my gaming build.

I am currently upgrading from a Dell XPS 410. I really loved the XPS gaming lineup from Dell but now that they going all Alienware on us I am not a fan. I was pricing out a new mid range XPS 9100 and figured I could build a system that would last longer and better performance.

These are the items I picked from Newegg and was wondering what you experts thought on my build. My budget is kind of ~$1,200.

Intel branded motherboards are best avoided for enthusiasts.

I havent seen the model you have listed but in the past they had very limited BIOS options.
Better to get Asus , Gigabyte , Asrock , MSI

The 2600K performs about 6% better over all than the 2500K which is clocked about 3% slower . Since you can very simply increase the 2500K multiplier its a waste of money , and especially for a gamer , to get the 2600K
The 2500K is your gamer CPU

Hey Outlander_04,

Thanks for advice, that's the kind of info i was looking for. I will head for a Gigabyte motherboard and grab the 2500k. I reason I grab that combo was I saw they kind of went together and could be over clocked. I am not a really big over clocker but I wouldn't mind going to the 2500K and overclocking 3%.

Also, I see on cpubenchmark.net (http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php) that the 2600K is ranked 9th. Thats what drove me to choose it. Then again I have been seeing alot of builds with the 2500k.

Hey wintermint,

That's another good idea! I will look into these three procs and check out the benchmarks on them. I guess I was assuming that because it was an i7 it would be automatically better then the i5's.
