I was told today (friend) that you can't have a dual boot OS if you use XP as one of your OS's.

Any truth to this ?

Thanks so much: >

No...there shouldn't be. See PowerQuest's PartitionMagic overview:

Can u explain how you have it setup?

Is it raid?

Maybe you can direct me to a link how to do it step by step.

I currently have ME (Raid o, stripe)

I'm not sure if it is any different for Raid, But all I did was:

Install 98SE on Primary Partition (FAT32).
Install XP onto Extended logical Partition (NTFS).

XP will automatically add a boot manager to select either Windows or Windows XP.

You should be able to install a dual-boot with no problems. In your case, you'd install WinME first, then slip in the WinXP CD after WinME is all set up. Choose to install a dual boot system, and preferably, select a different partition on which to install WinXP. They can both be FAT32 partitions if you want both drives to be able to be viewed in both OSes.

it will dual/triple/quad boot no probs, without 3rd party boot managers (unless you want 9x/me on other than the 1st partition), file system is also unimportant. quaded 98,2k,linux,xp for a while, (originally was 98,2k,linux) now just 98/xp/linux till I can be bothered wiping it- will then just be xp/linux. either way- no probs)

Next time you wave - use all your fingers

Ok, since i already have ME setup ,can i just install XP and then choose dual boot system?

This way io don't have to reinstall ME.

Thanks again to all, you have been so very helpful : >

Enjoy your weekend : >

If you put run the XP installer from within Windows ME, a screen will pop up, and you'd choose the option "New Installation", then something to the extent of "Create Dual-Boot System." I can't seem to remember the exact steps, but if you run the installer from Windows ME and follow the steps (don't choose the upgrade option!), you should be fine.
Good luck.
