Hello,

Last week I built a new pc.
Here are the specs:

MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX
AMD Ryzen 5 3600 WRAITH with stock cooler
be quiet! Pure Power 11 CM 600W
Gigabyte 515GB SSD
Asus GeForce GTX 1060 3g
8gb Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 2400MHz DDR4
Windows 10 Home

When I power the pc on for the first time on a given day, everything boots and works just fine. The pc will boot in the expected time for an SSD.

However, when I power the pc off, and on again, it has some trouble booting. All the lights of the peripherals turn on, but nothing happens for a while. Then, the peripherals shut off again, only to turn back on a few seconds later. Only then, the pc will boot. It takes about a minute and a half for the system to be fully operational.

If I turn the pc off, completely remove power, as I would when I go to bed, then turn it on again, everything is fine.

I've already tried to switch to UEFI Mode instead of CSM. Also placed the SATA cable of the SSD in a different slot, thinking the first slot might be busted.
Also updated to latest BIOS version.
This didn't help.

TL: DR
PC starts fine when power has been completely removed. If not, it loops for a while and then starts.

Any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

Tom

Bandaid fix - try turning fast startup off - https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4189-turn-off-fast-startup-windows-10-a.html

Have you run Live update 6 on your motherboard? its on the utility tab here - https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B450-TOMAHAWK-MAX#down-driver&Win10 64

Since it works fine on a fresh boot but not on a restart, its likely a driver that doesn't work with Fast startup. Updating drivers is one answer, leaving fast startup is another is you have ssd. I see it as a bandaid. Better to update drivers.

Just for clarification, you're on version 7C02v35 for your motherboard BIOS? Ideally you shouldn't even be in CSM since that is what you need if you were to install Windows 7.

You could try reflashing the BIOS, save and exit, then remove the CMOS battery and replace after 15 minutes and see if the issue persists.

Just to double check, which slot are you populating the SSD on, on the motherboard? Windows 10 version?

I've updated all the drivers, didn't solve the problem. Disabling fast boot, however, did.
I'll just leave fast boot off.

Thanks for your help!

I've tried two different slots for the SSD, it's in slot 2 now.
I'm in version 7C02v35 indeed.

Disabling fast boot fixed the issue, thank you for your reply! :)
