Issues with Usb Controller

So I finished building my computer a week ago, and everything has been working splendidly until this morning, in which upon booting Guild Wars 2 for the first time, it stated there was a hardware malfunction and had to terminate. It gave three likely reasons for the hardware malfunction. Either it was an unstable OC, a overheated CPU, or some problem with the memory.

Seeing as my computer is basically a little AC unit and I haven't begun Overclocking yet, that left a RAM issue. So i cracked open the case, took out the Ram and placed it back in well, and closed everything up. When I turned on the computer again, a message popped up saying windows couldn't start up, and that it would begin searching for problems.

Halfway through this process, the computer asks me if I would like to restore the computer to an earlier time. I agreed, and when the computer finished searching for problems, it shut down. When I started up again, my computer seemed perfectly normal. Everything came up as normal. Until I realized none of my USB devices were working anymore. THey were still receiving power, as the LED light in my mouse and keyboard were lit, but other than that, nada. Other than that the USB ports worked during start up, such as when choosing which way to start up windows or when surfing the motherboard options.

So upon reading some online forum questions and such, I managed to get to the BIOS setting with F2 during start up. So I search around and find a folder called USB settings. In there, I find an option for USB 2 Controller. I decide, as thats the only option I have thus encountered, to disable it and see what happens.

Well as I know now, it makes it so the USB ports NEVER work.

Anyone have any advice. This is extremely frustrating, and I'm losing patience quickly.

And I realize I may have posted this to the wrong forum, but I couldn't find a better suited one.

So after you diabled the usb 2 controller you an't go back in and enable it?
What you can try is two things , first shut down and turn off the power and unplug the psu, then take out the cmos battery. Put it back in after a few min and plug in the psu and start up and see if the usb ports are back.
If that doesn't work then try reloading the bios version that you have or the next newest one and that should make the usb come back.

If you look at the motherboard you will see a round silver coin like part about the size of a silver dollar , that's the cmos battery. When the powers off and disconnected it keeps a small amount of power going to the MB for the bios to maintain it's settings , once it's removed those settings are gone and when you put it back in it goes to the default settings written into the rom chips.

So that will enable the USB ports during start up, or for everything?

EDIT: So there's a CLR CMOS button on the back of my computer, which basically did the same thing as taking it out. But that original problem still persists. I can't use USB functions while in windows.

I reinstalled windows, and that seems to have fixed the problem. Although is there an easy way to restore all the application I installed on Windows.old?

And now after installing the data from the motherboard disk, my start menu and taskbar have dissapeared.

You could have fixed this problem without doing a reinstall, by doing a system restore with the Windows installation disk. Well you will know in future. It maybe a good idea to run a memory test program such as memtest86 for three passes to test your memory, you should always do this on a new build anyway. It may have been a memory problem that caused the original fault in the first place.

It could very well be that the driver caused the task bar and start menue to disappear, you can run the Windows repair to get them back. You do want to make sure that it'sthe driver and not something else. I have had a defective bios chip on the motherboard and it caused all sorts of issues and nearly drove me crazy because I could point to one thing that would cause these issues. I finally sent the MB in for repair RMA and they said that there was a defective bios chip which they replaced and the board worked fine after that.
Most likely your still in the 30 days from purchase so you need to make sure that you don't have a defective MB because it's a lot easier dealing with the place of purchase then the manufacturer.
