Both AMD and Nvidia don't base prices on what the last gen is selling for. The 580 is heavily discounted at this point in time.
---
I wonder if Nvidia can only disable SMX's. One SMX contains 1/8 of the cores/TMU's, so I wonder if they'll disable one for each drop(670-1, 660-2) and drop clocks slightly. Unless yields are good enough to keep the 670 with all of them at lower clocks and the 660 with 1 disabled.

I would assume the 660 will also have a 192-bit bus.
---
I don't think Big K would become the 685... A chip that big would definitely have bad yields, so it would need some sort of cut down version to sell as a lower end part; one of the reasons I believe the 7xx series will introduce Big K. Another being the performance jump from a 680 to 685 would be big, perhaps 30-40%.

I'm expecting Big K to have 2048 cores with a 384-bit bus since Nvidia fixed their memory controller issues. The configuration of the cores should be like GF110 instead of GF114.

All just my assumptions.

GTX 580 is not heavily discounted now it's just @ the price it should have been over a year ago .

Not exactly but they did tend to try and keep the previous generation somewhat competitive even after the new generation came out. For example the 460 was still at a competitive price point even after the 550ti and 560 were released. It fit right in between the two cards in both price and performance. Obviously they had to lower the price of the 580 to make the $500 price point available for 680 especially since the 7950 and 7970 were squeezing it from both sides anyway. It stands to reason that if they wish to continue selling 580s then they will have to offer a new product that does not compete with it directly at its price point...so perhaps a slightly higher performing 670ti for ~$420 and a slightly under-performing 670 for ~$380.

That's exactly what I was thinking myself.

I had just recently read a rumor that it will have 2300ish cores and over +50% performance (as well as a more competitive compute performance). Of course it's just a rumor though.

Heh...just noticed a link there too posted today with the speculation I was looking for...expected price points and performance levels for mid-range on down..

big k will most likely be 780 with the revised gk104 as the 760ti or something.

clocks probably wouldn't be as high as the 680 for the 780 but the large jump in shaders and memory bandwidth will make for a decent upgrade from the 680.

on a separate note, is there going to be a new radeon rumor thread?

hmm well now wait a second. First off we don't quite know if there will be a 700 series....it could either wind up being Maxwell with 700 series. Or we may just have another 200 series remix on our hands.

Most likely will see a GTX 685 after Radeon comes out with there 7990 or whatever.

Yes you brainiac know it all i already knew that..... 😛

My point was....the 600 series is gonna be the 600 series. and I think Maxwell will be the 700 Series. I think they are gonna do the whole scheme like they did with 200 Series except use 400-500 series names. Like TI and *685 and 660 ti and such and 670 ti

I tend to agree. Like that rumor article says it would be confusing to release a 700-series branded card only a few months after releasing the 680....if it really is coming out in Q3. Then they'd have to make a whole array of cut-down GK110 chips for a 770, 760, etc. which also doesn't make sense with such a huge die. I'm gonna go with GK110 = GTX 685, dual GK104 = GTX 690, and possibly a dual GK110 = GTX 695

No need to personally attack me whats your problem thumbs down for you man.

i agree that big K will be introduced with 7xx series, only that it will still keep 2gb vram to cut the costs, while it'll use 512bit memory buses but at lower speeds to provide around 50% bump in bandwidth.
And the cores will be 2304 certainly, else they will have problems with adjusting 48 ROPs and 192 texture units in a different design.

When you tell me something that, who doesn't already know.....it kinda makes the statement look stupid just saying. and I am not personally attacking you.....You can't take any small talk can you. You assume everyone here is ready to stabb you with a stick or something?, were here for hardware not WW3

I didn't even read your comment yet I will watch a movie now and at a later time perhaps will read your comment because I have had enough abuse out of you for one day thank you. ;-)

Thanks Saint, i was trying to refrain from saying anything. But i refuse he was begining to get anoyying

i for one cant to see how well the other kepler cards will do. :bounce:

i for one am having a hard time not buying a 680 gtx now and wait 1-2 weeks for non refference cards :pt1cable:

Agreed. the 680 is doing pretty beastly...even just one running avg 80-90 fps on BF3 Ultra!, Ahhhh

i for one cant wait to try 1080p gaming atm stuck on ye old faithfull 8800 gtx 7xx Mb (only baked 1 time in 5 yrs) 😀

all my games are gonne look awsome 😍

Yea 1080p will be smooth with the GTX 680. I should be getting my GTX 680 in about 2-3 weeks. ill have the cash and a card picked out hopefully that won't be too expensive. I want to see price points of the 680. I remeber seeing GTX 580's that were below the 500 mark when they first come out so...hopefully the 680 will happen the same way.

my gut is telling me the price will hopefuly drop maybe only on refference cards by 10-25$

And other models will swing about 500$ give and take up to 25$ for "light" upgraded cards.

giving he above that a small price war will start 😀

want asus DCUIIT varsion of it guessing price will be 525$ my guess atleast 😛

Pff I have to 8 weeks. My parents told me I can buy one after my exams 🙁 - I'll probably buy the GTX 685 then or even the GTX 690 :)
Can't wait, Stupid parents xD
