I have a laptop with a peculiar problem. Installed on the HD is Windows XP which worked fine until the other day when I turned it on and while booting into windows got this error: Unmountable Boot Device. So i popped in the Windows XP disk and had it boot from that and ran a scandisk from the recovery console. It got 73% done and quit saying that it had encountered an unrecoverable problem with the drive. After that it would not run scandisk saying that there is an unrecoverable problem. Next i ran fixmbr and it didnt seem to do much but after shutting down the computer and starting it up again it no longer recognizes the fact that there is a hard drive installed in it. I can no longer get to the recovery console because windows xp says that there is no hard drive and exits. I also tried a 98SE boot disk and got generally the same results. Any ideas???

Thanks
