Hi all,
I have just put together my first dyi pc ( do-it-yourself ) and all seems well.
I have read alot about overclocking here at toms and have made several benchmarkable improvements on my own over the last 3 days.
now i would like to see what i missed and learn about a few things i was scared to attempt on my own.
I built this machine as the first of two that will be used in my home as primarily gaming machines.
here are the specs:
abit kt7a-raid mobo ,
t-bird 800 oc'd to 880 ( 110 x 8)
asus v7700 agp gts 2 deluxe ddr running @ engine 210 mhz / memory @363mhz, with the latest detonator 3 drivers installed.
creative sb live x gamers w/ latest drivers
maxtor 20g hd w utra dma / ata 100 ( not running raid though)
maxtor 6g os only 66 ide ata compatible
3 128 mb modules of sd100 mhz generic memory, oc'd in the bios same as above 110 mhz.
I have mushkin revision 3 cas 2 @ 150 mhz coming in the mail wich hopefully i can oc to 200 and utilize the fsb of this setup all @ 200 mhz fsb. 4 128 modules , 2 for each machine i am building.
and i am running win me, (yeah i know i hate this piece of crap too)
I have been through the bios a number of times to optimize to my particular set up....
although i dont think i have the drive strength optimized or the agp drive value wich is set to its default "da" with agp driving control on auto.
well thats pretty much it for this system.
i used 3d mark 2000 after initialy setting up and scored a 2,250 pts, then i set up all of the latest drivers for my system ecxept for the bios update from award and scored 4,555 pts, then i changed the settings from performance tab to desktop computer instead of network server and low and behold i scored 6,993 pts.
after all that im happy with the system as is so i dont know if ill risk any trouble by pushing it, but i want to know more about the bios settings i mentioned above as well as this unlocking the l1 bridge or something.
is there a difinitive article regarding this somewhere??
what will i gain ?
what should my core voltage be and why? ( that is something else that i havent changed)
is there anything i missed ? ( im sure there is plenty)
the top scores with this setup that i compared to are in the low 8000's so i feel im running in the top 10 % meaning im close to being fully optimized at 6993 pts but i would really like to break that 7,000 without having to tweak something eachtime i wanna test or play.
As it is now im scoring very well. Everything looks and sounds great, and i dont have to change anything as i move along through the 20 or 30 different games we typically play. Well I hope that i have given enough of the appropriate info to gain some tips, suggestions and knowledge.
thank you for reading this long long post.
cant wait to check back and see the responses.
ps i forgot to mention i have also optimized me's registry settings with the vcache and 386enhc at swap file usage etc....
