Dear All,

I am in process of buying a new custom build desktop, Can someone explain me the difference between LGA 1156 and FCLGA1156 type of sockets ?

I have read somewhere that the only difference is the graphics, Is that True ?

Second thing is (probably a dumb question)...... does LGA1156 motherboard supports FCLGA1156 processors ?

Any help will be grateful

They are the same thing. "FC-LGA 1156" is Intel's official name for the CPU package as it is a Flip-Chip Land Grid Array package with 1156 lands. All modern desktop CPUs (everything since the "Mendocino" PII-based Celeron) are flip-chip designs, so most people just call FC-LGA 1156 "LGA 1156." However, Intel makes a lot of other kinds of ICs that are traditional non-flip-chip designs and they feel they need to differentiate between what ICs are flip-chip and what ones are traditionally packaged.

This site is amazing. Finding all the answers I am seeking :3
Tomorrow I am going to buy an i7 860 (1156 FCLGA) and replace it with i5 680 (1156 LGA).
You guys have already answered the question, but if I face a problem, I post it here.
Thanks for bringing this up.
