Moderator edit to break up a solid paragraph of text.

I have a few old computers I like to mess around with and recently I decided to put Ubuntu on an old
Dell XPS 8700 Desktop PC
CPU: i7-4770
GPU: GTX 645 OEM
RAM: 32GB
Storage: 250GB SSD and an old 2TB HDD

I took some online classes a couple of years ago that had some basic linux included and did a little with it then, but since then have mostly forgotten any of the Linux stuff, since I don't use it in my everyday life.

The problem I have encountered is I was using my 50" tv as its monitor from when I used it for watching streams that don't have a smart app. back when it had windows on it.

Once Ubuntu was installed it looked nice, but the resolution was so high it had such tiny text on it.

I then installed Steam to see if any of the games I had were also compatible with it. I had maybe 2 that were, but when I went to run them it told me I needed the Nvidia drivers.

I tried doing the commands I found online, but they didn't change anything, then I tried Steam again and used terminal to input what it suggested.

Bad Mistake. The resolution is now locked at 640x480 and everything is HUGE.

Do I need to start from scratch or are there some terminal inputs I can use to restore it and maybe even make Steam happy?

Update

I removed the SSD and put in an unformatted 512 SSD and reinstalled Ubuntu, and its now working ok. Only Issue I have is now everytime I start this computer it gives me an error and wants me to go into the bios. After I do, no matter what I tell it (save and exit or not) and when I don't change the boot drive from Ubuntu (I literally leave everything alone) when I choose for it to exit and boot, it then boots fine. Is there a way to get it to not make me do that everytime?

Can you elaborate ?
Post the error message word for word or post an image.
1st of all Thank You! I had been skimming over the error message and not reading one important word. "System Fan Failure" and then a prompt to press f1 to continue or f2 to goto bios. I missed the word fan or maybe it didn't register in my head due to me not thinking that would go bad when changing systems. I opened it up on a boot and the case fan would try to sputter a little bit then quit during boot. I have one in a junk room in the house somewhere , but its too big of a pain to unload a room full of junk, so I ordered one that should arrive Friday.
