Hello, I have a game crashing to desktop issue where my games freeze, depending on the game I see a error that says that my GPU device has been lost, in event viewer I see event id 4101 and in reliability history tool I see livekernelevent 141.

Specs :
GPU - RTX 2070 Super
CPU - i5 8600k
RAM - 16GB DDR4 RAM(8GB x 2 sticks same model)
PSU - Asus ROG Strix 750w (I had a seasonic 550w focus gm but I switched in hope that the crashing issue would disappear, didn't work)

What I tried :
  • GPU RMA
  • GPU running on debug mode, and tried underclocking manually too
  • furmark + prime95 for 45 minutes nothing wrong with PC
  • running OCCT on power stress test for 1 hour no errors
  • memtest86+ no error found
  • windows reinstallation
  • installing GPU drivers using DDU
  • installing pc drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's website

Sometimes these event 141 crashes can be resolved by simply, selecting auto detect graphics setting in the games they occur with, or avoiding the specific gameplay that cause a crash, however fun that might be. Other than that the only other solution I have ever found that works is to implement a registry fixes that allows the GPU to have specialized power levels and not limited by defaults, or controlled by third party apps. But that only works if you are 100% about the state of your hardware & have sufficient power to the entire pc.

I do have sufficient power to the entire PC, and the only possible hardware issue is from the crashing issue, I would like to try the registry fixes

It's quite difficult to find on the internet what exact entries you need to add to the windows registry under graphics driver control, but if you look hard enough you will find it, obviously I don't know and cant tell you what I don't use myself, (I have an AMD GPU, but have also successfully edited my registry to avoid 141, with a previous NVidia GPU)

They don't want you to know because this is what makes people buy new hardware. (circumventing the buying of new hardware, by simply adding a registry fix)

I see, hopefully I'll find a a registry fix , since I RMAd my GPU and it was confirmed ok, as for my PSU I switched it to hopefully fix the crashing issue(spoiler - didn't work)

Alright now your probably on the right path, just don't go and download anything that might magically solve your problem, you have to manually create registry entries, without touching things in the registry that you don't know what is what, easy way to screw up an otherwise working setup.

those registry fixes you talk about, are they related to TDR(e.g. TdrDelay)? or this is another type of registry fix?

Similar, but I doubt those are the ones your seeking, more like: PowerLevel or TrdLevel, but they obviously differ if you have a NVidia or AMD class GPU.
There might even be others that are to be utilized to stop livekernelevents from interrupting gameplay, unfortunately I cant remember what it was that I used when I had a NVidia GPU, but once you find it, keep it and use it like a treasure.

There is another thing that I can tell you about these gpu registry fixes that I remember is that once you found them and tested that they keep your system stable through gameplay and implemented them, you have to check up on the registry location every once in a while, and look or reimplement again. Especially after a gpu driver change or update, because they mysteriously get deleted again, and then your problems will start again.

What I did is I copied them to a text file and just used that every time I was required to implement the regedit fixes again, because if you have to search the web again because you lost what you knew had worked you'll never find it again, trust me I have tried.
