Hello,
I Have A

Gateway: GT5694
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) 9100e Quad-Core Processor 1.80Ghz Foxconn RS780 Motherboard
the motherboard you have supports Socket AM2+ Processors up to 95w TDP so i need help picking out a new Processor can any one help me out

Solution
AM3+ motherboards are out now, but they are based on the 800/700 series chipsets and may not offer all the features of BD.

Your motherboard does not say Ahtlon II or Phenom II support, so I highly doubt you can upgrade the cpu.

And NO, Newegg (or anyone for that matter) does not take back opened cpu's unless they are defective. Even so it's a replacement only return policy, meaning you get another one, NOT your money back.

Well first off there is no official supported list so it's going to be trial and error. As always prebuilds don't update their bioses, since they want you to buy new, so the only thing you can do is buy and try.

95 watt chips on the egg:

I would buy either the 840 with no l3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103921

or the unlocked 945 with l3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103809

If you can overclock on the board (which I'm not sure about check bios!) the 945 would be great.

Vinayaprasad: Jason, that is the only information we have.
Vinayaprasad: For further help, please contact a local technician in your city.
Vinayaprasad: Jason, to conclude I have provided the information to upgrade the processor. If there are no additional questions on this topic, I will close the chat session.
Vinayaprasad: Thank you for using Gateway Live Chat. Have a nice day.
Vinayaprasad has disconnected.

good to know gateway is ready to help

A PhII 925 or 945 would be a nice upgrade, and I suspect the Egg would take a return if either one did not work for you.

Foxconn has been doing OEM stuff for years and my experience with them has been quite decent. The RS780 is a nice step up from the old nVidia 6150/430 motherboards that still pollute the OEM landscape.

I've got a retail Foxconn A79A-S 790FX that has been bullet-proof (got it on the cheap, too) as a base for my home theater. The audio is sweet, and it has dual eSATA that just keeps chugging along (pushing 10 HDDs in 2 5-bay external enclosures using the 'port multiplier' function).

Their web site is a *&^$! POS, though - LOL

Processor Support
Supports AMD® Socket AM2+ (940 pin), AMD Phenom™ (95 W), Athlon™ 64 X2, Athlon 64, and Sempron™ processors the ones 925 945 are Socket AM3 does that matter?

No, sir.

Current AMD AM3 processors have both a ddr3 and ddr2 memory controller.

When you are ready for a new rig, you may purchase an AM3+ motherboard with ddr3 and simply install the AM3 processor you plan to purchase.

A future AM3+ motherboard for you (which supports the processor you plan to purchase) will be compatible with the next-gen AMD Bulldozer Zambezi processor which should enter the market in the next 5 weeks.

Make a nice upgrade for you in 12-18 months [:jaydeejohn:5]
