Looking for the cheapest laptop possible.

Hey there, Tom's!
A friend of mine is buying my old gaming computer, but needs a laptop for college, as well.
The only thing he's going to be doing on it is surfing the internet and using MS word.

I'm in the US, and want the cheapest non-netbook laptop out there that won't explode.
I figured a referb would probably be best for this, but I don't know laptops, only desktops.

Any ideas?

wait for Black Friday.
Pick up whatever looks good.

Can't wait?
Go to costco, pick up something on sale there.

The above should link to BESTBUY. It's a refurbished 14" ASUS laptop for $280.

If you buy anything cheaper from a source like E-Bay you'll likely run into problems. You can keep looking but I doubt you'll find a better deal.

There was a $209 refurbished laptop but it only had 1GB of RAM (Windows Starter, slow Atom CPU). You absolutely don't want less than 2GB.
