Hi, not around here very often.

I'm looking to upgrade my EVGA GTX 970 SC, I've been looking through local classifieds and I've run across some decent deals on GTX 1070's and such.
My current specs are:

MSI B250 Gaming MB
Intel Core i5-7600
8 GB Ram
Windows 10 OS
650W PSU

By no means am I good at anything with PC's, I've been away from them for a while and I'd like to start off some newer games. I'm just a bit curious that if I go with a newer GPU what would be the most ideal for me?

Solution
That's a very decent price foe the gpu. And the only reason I said 16gb, was I just recently watched a video about how 12 Just wasn't a great idea. I think it was by hardwareunboxed. If you have a 2x4 kit, I'm guessing you could get $40-50 US for it, making a new 16gb kit only 40-50.

If you do grab the 1070, I would start gaming in 1440 to avoid any small bottlenecks. But even at 1080, you should not have any issues.

Depending on which "650W" PSU you have, the GTX 1070 would be a good choice. About the top card the quad core can use w/o bottleneck, I suspect.
What screen rez do you game at? 8GB of system memory will be the bare minimum once you go to an 8GB gfx card.

If say the 1070 or even a 2060 would be good cards. Like said above, probably about the max card for the system. I was using a 1070 with a 6600k for about 2 years before recently upgrading to a 2080. It was a very good experience, imo. Still have the 1070 laying around to finish testing the 2080, as I've heard all the horror stories, but will be selling soon. Served me very well in both 1080 and 1440.

Thank you for your reply
Currently running a EVGA 650 BQ 80 Plus Gold PSU. If need be, I'll pick up a set of 12 GB RAM while I install a new GPU. The specific GPU I was looking at was an ASUS ROG GTX 1070, it's for sale by someone local so I'd be getting a fairly decent deal on it.
Also, I'm running a newer Samsung 40" 4K TV as a monitor, I run the desktop at 3840x2160 but just about every single game I play is at 1920x1080

I would go with a 16 gb kit and not 12. Grab a 16 kit and sell what you have now to recoup some cost. If buying used you should be able to get a good kit for 70-80, or new for just over $100.

That Asus strix gtx is the card I had. Its a fantastic card!! Runs cool and overclock well, and is a great 1440p card. You'll be able to run mostly maxed out at 60-100fps in most titles. You'll like it a lot!

If I could ask what you're paying for it, just trying to get a good idea of what to let mine go for. 200-250?

16 GB? Thats good to know,

I've been talking to someone and they're willing to let it go for $350 CAD, I figured since it's cheap and I wasn't really in the market for an upgrade I might as well snatch the deal. And that also sounds like a good idea about selling my old parts to recoup some of the cost, thanks for the advice.
