Hey all,

Have been reading lately that for optimal performance, the memory bus speed should be equal to the FSB speed. now this my FSB is 1333 (C2Q Q8400) and there's DDR3-1333 which has a bus speed of 1333 GT/s, with clock speeds of 667MHz per stick.

So now, if i run this in dual channel, my bus speed for the memory remains 1333, right? Or does it become twice that?

And if it becomes twice that, is that undesirable (since FSB is 1333)?

I'm currently running 4 1GB sticks @ DDR2-800 speeds, 6-6-6-18 (as reported by mobo, however Sandra reports 5-6-6-18 and i can't get the timings to move), and the mem bandwidth is about 5GB/s (max FSB bandwidth is 10.xx GB/s). I'm running 64-bit Win 7 HP on an intel DG35EC mobo.

Thinking of upgrading to a DDR3 capable mobo, as the processor serves me fine, but RAM and PCIe 1.1 will become a bottleneck when i upgrade my GPU next month. Was thinking of getting a pair of 4GB Vengeance series RAM from Corsair and running them tight (8-8-8-24) at 1333 MHz on a P43 board. They're apparently very compatible with stuff (this i gathered from newegg).

Also, i'm getting single 4GB sticks at cheaper price than a 2x4GB kit. Should i still go for the kit? Or should i just get a single stick (haven't had the need for more than 4GB as of now, but i was thinking of maximizing throughput by running them in dual channel). And if you say get the single stick, will 2x2GB dual channel be better than a single 4GB stick? A dual channel kit is more expensive here than a single 4GB, btw, by about the equivalent of $10.

Final question: Is one stick per channel better than, say, 2 or more sticks per channel?

Thanks,
Ojas

1- no it will stay the same

2-stick with dual channel configuration ( u should have @ least 2 stick of ram one DIMM per channel , 2 * 4 G is the way to go )

3-some says that u can OC better with only one stick perchannel instead of fully using the 4 DIMMS available ... ( less heat also is a + , but not really something tbe concerned about )

Alright, thanks. Guess if i go down this path then i'll stick with 2x4GB.

Though TBH i have a feeling that jumping to ivy bridge will be a far better idea. Thinking of riding out till haswell/broadwell. Just don't want the proc to die on me one day and i'd have a new mobo and RAM that i won't be able to use (since the spec's changed to 1.35V now)...the rest of my build will carry through.
