Low signal after purchasing new router

I recently had to purchase a new wireless router due to several bad storms and power failures corrupting the software on my WRT54G linksys.
I have several devices in the house that use the wireless frequently from the PC to the PS3 so I set out and bought a WNR2000v2 Netgear 300N+ wireless router. Now I'm having issues with signal strength.

Ex: My internet comes in on the 2nd floor of the house and my PS3 is on the 1st. With my old router I was getting 90-75% signal and no problems connecting to the network. Now I'm getting from 50-62% and several issues with games crashing while online.

I have it set in the b/g/n mode but none of the systems are set up for N. Is there anything I can do to fix my issue or should I take the router back and get something better? Thank you!

You should try to optimise your reception and avoid interference.

1) raise the router above furniture level
2) Experiment with channels (some will work better or worse depending on your environment)
3) If you can detect strong neighbouring wifi, use a channel 5 stops away from strongest.
4) Relocate cordless phone base or video sender etc.
5) Be prepared to move the computer (or at least turn it so your body is not between the router signal and the wireless adapter's antenna.
