Ok, my friend asked me to take a look at his comp since it won't work. He has a PC Chips M922 V 1.1 mobo (ddr and sdr support, he's using sdr) and a 2.0Ghz P4. The issue is that we can install windows just fine and boot it up the first time, but after we install the gfx drivers and reboot, as soon as it gets to the xp screen the screen goes black. Tried a GF4 MX420, GF4 Ti4200, and an Ati R7500. No luck, happens everytime. Wondering if this could be a bios issue? I'm a little hesitant to flash since pc chip's website is uninformative about his mobo, that have others like M922LU and what not, but those are different chipsets so I don't want to screw it up.

All the things I really like to do are either illegal, immoral, or fattening.

heya flamethrower;

Im wondering if you should try installing the latest chipset drivers then install the video drivers, give it a try, who knows it might be a chipset issue.

Attempt a Windows Recovery Repair setup, or simply format. Chances are something is corrupted and WinXP can be very mean towards any repair possibilities.

Hmmm... It's a Via chipset mobo which is pretty scary to begin with. The mobo is up to version 5.0 and you've working on a v1.1, which is just flat out frightening.

It might be something as simple as BIOS, drivers, the power supply, or even just dust. Or it might just be a piece of unstable junk for a motherboard.
