Question Mac excel file won't open on my PC

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question or even the right forum, but everyone here has always given me sound advice, so this is where I will start.

I hired a teenager to do some data entry for me. I gave here a thumb drive with an excel file which was formatted to calculate $$ totals from invoices. I have a PC (Windows 10) and Office, fairly current. She has a Mac. When she brought the thumb drive back to me, I couldn't open the file. The file extension is .xlsx and is grayed out when I go to the the thumb drive to open. File name looks like this: ._Invoice 2019 rev1

Is there any way I can open this file, whether something I can do or having the teenagers re-save the file differently?

Can you please confirm if you tried using any third-party Excel Repairing tool? Although some of them are paid programs, their trial version would help you assess if what you're trying to do is possible.

Files starting with dot-underscore are not the real files, they are like .LNK files on Windows. Check the size of that file, and look around for real Invoide.xlsx file.
