memory timings question.

can someone explain to me what memory timings are all about? 4-4-4-5 etc...(i just made that up. not sure if its a real set)

Not to hi-jack this thread with anothher question but what kinda effect does memory times have on gaming performance. I know the basics of the timings etc and the imporance of low latency memory, but does this have a huge effect on the FPS or general running of a game?

well it seems that timings aren't that important. latency and the speed of the memory seems to be the biggest deciding factors.

If you're not overclocking, lower timings don't matter. Lower timings are more for overclockers so they can push the FSB/HT speeds up to overclock the CPUs.

Timings from 5T to 4T probably will not have any real life improvements. You will probably overclock better, but w/o the overclock its pretty negligible.
