When you see the network icons in the sys tray are they red X'd out?

YES!!! THAT IS IT

good job... no sarcasm intended ok?

If they're X'd out they're not connecting in the computer itself

thus that means that I should do what?

You need to go back into Device Manager and make sure everything is installed, your ethernet, WiFI, etc.

You have to install the drivers before the card accoridng to the quick install guide.

This also goes for Ryans last comment:

What should I do now... right now click by click?

Okay then listen carefully please:

I went to the device manager and then to the card's page

I clicked on update driver, after it repeatedly telling me that it couldnt find a better fit, I got it to install the drivers from the CD

no difference is noted

Try removing the card (from windows device manager and physically) rebooting turn off again then reinstall card (in different slot if you can)

Then run driver (check the linksys link i gave you )

As of now, if noone else has any good ideas that WILL help

I will reformat/reinstall

any help still will would be great

That will take you right back where you are now with all your programs gone!

are you sure that is true, that I will have the same wifi card issues? Perhaps its something bad elsewhere,,,

Did you restart the machine after the driver install?

Nope didnt ask to, but Im doing it right now

Truly in my final state of frustration. just so you all know

If you're that frustrated just quit with it for tonight.

You're almost there, its better to quit and start again later than start from scratch with the same problems.

If I end up refortmatting and i run into the same exact wifi card issue, well then that sucks something horrible

but the Other Guy thought of something doable: uninstall the wifi card physically and through device manager
and try to restart and get it going from there:

cant hurt gonna do it now unless you Ryan object

Well logically whats going to change?

You just did a WinXP repair installation, WinXP is fine at this point getting your onboard WiFi hardware is the problem.

Sometimes computers can drive you up a wall, its best to know when to quit and walk away, and try again another day.

okay then I will go and try the other guys method of complete reinstallation of the wifi card.

wish me luck

Daves got a point there, some hardware needs the software installed first, if he says thats what Linksys requires pull the card and try it.

Oh, I should try to install the software without the card being in yet?

Okay I shall try (i was in the middle of removing the drivers, moving the card over a slot and then put the drivers on <at the point of booting into windows with the moved card>)

I am now shutting down and will remove the card and try to boot.

wish me

I was trying to apply my sense of humor (Mistake)

the adapter all the way in. After
the adapter is firmly in place,
secure its fastening tab to your
PC's chassis with a mounting
screw. Then, close your PC.
D Attach the external antenna to
the adapter’s antenna port.
E Power on your desktop PC.
