The dell has a 4g option and the Asus vivotab has a 3g option.

@ folks picking on me.
You guys are mean, made me cry.
The video didn't say "tethering was used" to show operations. I was assuming they were comparing two independent operating devices.

Again, I've never EVER seen anyone use an iPad/tablet like a phone. Yes, I know it can work that way with Skype, etc. And I've seen a few use an iPad as a camera (how horrible).

@Blazer1985 : The video shows a Dell tablet... which doesn't come in 3G or 4G.

RT tablets are still sub-standard to Android and iPad tablets. Lower resolution.
An iPad3 runs circles around any RT tablet with more than double the res and 3~8x the GPU horse power (depending on benchmark type). Even baby mini iPad has better stats.

PS: I'm no fan of apple... they are full of crap with their lawsuits. I'm an Android phone and iPad1 owner. My next tablet will most likely be Android 5x. (90% chance) Zero chance of being a Microsoft tablet.

In my household, we are not buying anything new that is Microsoft. No XBO, no surface or Win8.

Running two things on a tablet... not a deal breaker. I assume Android 5.0 may include such a function. Hey, if an Amiga could do that in 1985 (split screen multi-tasking with 7Mhz / 512K RAM) I don't see why iOS and Android can't. Running 2 (gasp 3) things in Windows 8 TIFKAM... worthless and stupid.

You mean like Apple did with the "Windows VS PC" commercials, just before they became the most valuable company in the world? Not suggesting anything even close to that is going to happen with Microsoft, but, your suggestion is a bit on the stupid side.

you should really do more research before you repeat wrong information several times. it was the Dell XPS 10 which DOES have 4G LTE via AT&T : http://www.dell.com/us/p/XPS-10-tablet/fs

Their Atom powered version (Latitude 10) also has a 4G variant

I picked up an Asus ME400C with the Atom 2C/4T CPU and I LOVE the thing. It can really do some of this stuff a lot faster than the first gen Atoms. A lot of people seem to be hating on the content of the videos rather than what the videos are showing. If the guy already has the charts open, you know, multitasking, he doesn't have to pop back to the Windows start screen to pull it into view. The way I use my tablet it really DOES work this fast. For productivity it is amazing. I actually use it for basic photo culling in Lightroom 4 and it works very well too, though not as fast parsing 8 MB RAW images files as it can with websites and spreadsheets. I sold my Windows 8 ExoPC tablet and that thing was heavy. I would have to say after a month of use, all of these videos are VERY true, according to my experiencing. Haswell should bring things even farther along. The Atom in my tablet is an SoC and is only 7W and I get a FULL 10 hours of use of it, maybe about 8 when I'm photo culling. AND I got it for $399...

1. Wifi from phone 2. How often do a ad have real world situations? 3. They make great telecommunications devices, but pl just dont want it. 4. True, and it would be a to click job. How about the iPad?

Performance on a Surface tablet is MUCH greater than any other tablets! Comparing them seriously is a joke! I Know that a HP tablet is shown here, but iPad specs is not that powerfull in general.

@nikolajj
So you are comparing the performance of a $1000 desktop CPU powered slate to an ipad? The ADs are showing the RT versions... And no, the RTs are much much slower than the iPad3/4.

I already said the deal with 3G/4G versions. The Ads didn't say "Requires tethering".

Actually, some of the desktop CPU powered slates that don't actually come from Microsoft are in the mid to upper range price of the iPad... So basically, unless you want to get a pretty Spartan iPad, you could get a significantly more powerful full Windows tablet in the same price range. The non MS models tend to cost a lot less than the Surface branded ones.

Hmm... appears the site accident reposted my post from days ago.
Anyways... Stevejnb: We're comparing ARM/mobile powered devices in general.
You wouldn't compare a Ford Focus to a Ferrari would you?

All of the RT tablets on the market are weaker than the iPad 3/4. Slower in processing, much slower in GPU, lower resolution than the iPad4, worse battery life, very weak app selection.

Checking with bestbuy's site: SurfaceR with 32GB = $350 / $450 with 64GB. Also, unlike Android and iOS - WinRT eats up a lot more memory space.

iPadmini = $330
iPad2 = $400
iPad4 = $500 (all 3 with 16GB)

The WinRT tablets are $350~700... but most places no longer sell them. The $350 selling price is the deep discount SurfaceRT. Over on Newegg, all RTs are $600+ with 64GB. That is Asus, Dell. A $500 iPad4 is still a better deal, even tho it only has 16GB RAM.

The cheapest Windows8 tablets are $350~780 (avg $600) - which run a desktop Win8OS on top of a piss-slow ATOM CPU. (AMD should be used in this demographic). An ATOM CPU is like a Pentium3... this means, it runs soooo slloooow.

Typical Win8Pro tabets have i5-i7 CPUs (Why not the i3?)
Some of these ATOM tablets are in the $850 range.
The i5-i7 models are in the $900~3800 price range - avg $1000~1200.
Sigh... I remember when the iPad first came out and people were complaining how expensive they were at $400~600... so a $1200 Surface is cheap?

Well.. compared to a 1983 version of the Commodore64 was $400 (64k RAM, a keyboard - nothing else)

Belardo,

Take a look at this:

http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Iconia-W700-6831-11-6-Inch-Tablet/dp/B00B2GXGUM/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1373841598&sr=8-4&keywords=acer+iconia+w700

Acer Iconia W700. $749 for an 11.6 inch full Window 8 tablet, Wifi, 64 gb SSD storage, i3 processor (I spent an extra $100 and got an i5). Also, comes with a Bluetooth keyboard with a standup case and an micro hdmi to vga adapter which, together, would probably set you back at *least* $75 if you had to buy separately. $50 discount on that deal

So, Intel processor - that "Ferrari" you were talking about - 64 gb storage, high res screen, and a few perks (keyboard and such).

Let's compare that to an iPad with the same amount of storage:

http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MD330LL-Wi-Fi-White-Generation/dp/B00746UVQG/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1373841641&sr=8-6&keywords=ipad+3

For $625 WITH a $75 discount you get.. 64 gb storage, I honestly don't know what kind of processor.

The "Ferrari" costs 20% more than the "Toyota," and the prices are almost the same when you factor in the Bluetooth keyboard and stand that the Acer Iconia W700 comes with. The thing is, to get a FULLY decked out iPad with at matching keyboard and stand, you pay *more* for the iPad than for the Acer Iconia W700.

I take your point... The Surface Pro 64 gb storage is a hefty bit more than an iPad. Some non-MS branded full Windows 8 tablets cost about as much as an upper end iPad with the same storage - maybe just a bit more... And as you said, they are a Ferrari in comparison.

The iPad is horribly overpriced and some non-MS branded full Windows 8 tablets aren't. Most people don't realize how badly they're getting ripped off paying that kind of a premium for the hardware in an iPad, but... They are. I say, go Android ($200-$300 for the same hardware as an iPad) or go Windows 8 pro tablet ($750 for Ultrabook hardware in a tablet form factor). Why pay 80% the money - BEFORE factoring in that Bluetooth keyboard (which I am typing on right now - works great, as does the stand) - for a toy in comparison, hardware wise?

Edit: Also, while I do realize that this is not something that many people know about, I did pick a product from a major brand on one of the largest retailers in the US - this is not obscure Chinese made tablet or some build it yourself product to match value. Major retailer, recognized PC producer making the tablet. Pretty on the up and up.
