[citation][nom]Ethan314159[/nom]Microsoft is really grasping at straws here. Of course you can't connect an Xbox to a Mac. You think Microsoft would allow that? Not really a fault of Apple.[/citation]
Well that's actually a lie from Microsoft you can also share your media from your Mac/Linux to the xbox360. You just can't do it out of the box, but there is free software out there that allows you to do this.

[citation][nom]belardo[/nom]- TV connections? Macs include TV HDMI output.... most PCs don't, its an add-on. Not a biggie. But here is something most people don't know.[/citation]
[citation][nom]deltatux[/nom]So the whole office thing is bs. As for the dongle, although it does cost money, I can change to different output formats without having to worry when I have a PC laptop. A PC laptop only has VGA or HDMI. Only the higher end ones have both. The Apple one has mini-DisplayPort which allows people to use any format (VGA, DP, DVI and etc.)[/citation]
Actually almost all PCs come with both a VGA port and a HDMI/DVI port, even the lower end laptops. The only exception being netbooks. There are also laptops that have DisplayPort besides Apple.

[citation][nom]Ragnar-Kon[/nom]About the encrypting your drive... I can buy a $120 operating system and encrypt my home folder, or spend $320 to encrypt my whole drive... another $200 just so I can encrypt files that don't really need encrypting anyway? No thanks.[/citation]
Encrypting other folders besides just the home folder is useful. I can encrypt an external hard drive, flash drive,... where as on the Mac I can't. This can be a decisive factor when a corporation chooses their OS's. I can also find Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Retail for $250. I can find it even cheaper if I'm assembling a new computer and buy the OEM version which costs $170. And if I have Windows XP or Windows Vista I can upgraded it for $160.

[citation][nom]wotan31[/nom]What a joke. If you believe these false lame arguments, you are the stereotypical Wintard. lol.[/citation]

So I'm guessing your a Mactard?

[citation][nom]wotan31[/nom]The only good thing about a Windows Peecee is..... um... nothing![/citation]

You just proved my point in how ignorant mac users are!

lol

the comments are entertaining to say the least, the title for this thing is all wrong it should be called "Microsoft publishes Apple FlameBait website"

[citation][nom]Ethan314[/nom]I love how any comment on here remotely positive towards Apple or even neutral gets bombarded with thumbs down... The Anti-Apple Brigade is just as bad the overzealous Apple fanboys they hate.[/citation]

We are fighting fire with fire.

[citation][nom]jgv115[/nom]TBH, I actually quite like OSX but I don't like the Mac. Yes they are 2 different things, OSX is the software and Mac is the hardware. This is why I run OSX on my PC! A Mac is just too damn expensive, not customizable and performs worse to a PC counterpart.Apple should let OSX be installed on any computer legally. It's such a shame that OSX HAS to be run on a Mac.[/citation]

God forbid...then OSX might gain some market share and ... *gasp* ... worth hackers' time to attack. Then what? Apple might actually have to spend some time to plug all the holes. Microsoft has a 15 year head start on plugging holes.

[citation][nom]Ethan31415[/nom]Microsoft is launching one failure after another. (Zune, Kin, Bing) They are getting desperate, and it's showing. It seems to be the beginning of the end of the Microsoft era. Now it's time for Apple, Google, and Linux.[/citation]

Poor reception iphones, overheating ipads, and bullshit responses from Jobs "you're holding it wrong". Yeah Apple is just a beacon of hope in these dark times for MS (Win7 rocks, 360 is kicking ass and the zune only failed due to marketing as it is a great device). And what is wrong with Bing, seems to work for me.

While I generally perfer my windows boxes over my osx box (both have their places imho) I dislike advertising like this. I didn't like it when apple did it and I don't like it now when MS is doing it. I prefer advertising that touts the values and pluses of the product without having to compare it to the faults of the other (sony's been doing this pretty well with their PS3 commercials lately). Negative advertising just makes a company seems dickish to me. Honestly, MS has needed to fire their marketing dept executives for almost a decade, their commercials have always been awful (the Bill and Seinfeld ones probably being the worst - but, I also never thought Seinfeld was funny so I may be biased).

So... the only good point is the last one?

This is all from the point of view that someone is using Windows exclusively before hand.

Heck, my aunt went from a Dell to a Macintosh computer, she uses it fine.

[citation][nom]jonpaul37[/nom]haplo, Mac's are for idiots with too much money who want to look cool. Every dollar that goes to Apple products is wasted money that could be going to better use other than lining Job's/Woz's pockets. The profits they are making are completely outrageous and unjustifiable.[/citation]

You got that wrong. Apple is making a product for a specific market segment. their HW+SW is tailored to just that. OTOH Windows is there to sell to anybody with a compatible CPU be it gaming PC, office PC, workstation or server.

If you read that comparison carefuly, it only says 2 things:

1. Windows is better because it is more common. However this is not the case for only Windows 7. You have to count each and every Windows version in use. Windows 7 on its own is not that impressive.

2. Cooperation between 2 closed platforms is not the best. This is true simply because of the way MS and Apple develop and market their products.

The whole comparison says nothing about the individual qualities of each OS.

I have em all, XP, VISTA (puke), Se7en (semi puke) amd MAC OSX.

On mac os x i've had 3 lock ups in 6 years. yes 3. True story. And ZERO reformats

In Windows I've had countless BSOD's (in fact I start my own consulting company thanks to MS), driver errors, well over 100 screen lockups. Countless "hit F8's to load LKGC". If I want a system that works, I'll take MAC OS X. If I want a system the world uses, I'll still use my Windows XP Pro machine. Though out of the 3 machines I have, 2 are MAC OS X and one is for Windows/work stuff.

Macs are useless for gamers. Show me a PC builder that's a gamer that boots to a MAC OS to game. Ya doesn't exist.

might spoil your fun: All those statements are very correct.

Mac's can take time to learn: That is actually pretty wrong. Learning a Mac is quite simple and actually recommended for the computer illiterate.

Mac's don't work well at school: If your using Mac's productivity suite, the only reason that is true is because the standard for schools is to use Microsoft Office. Plus anyway, Openoffice is now available for Mac.

Mac's don't like to share: Mac to mac, no problems. Heck PC to PC no problems. Mac to PC or vice versa, problems. And both companies are to blame for that.

Mac's might not like your PC stuff: Lol Microsoft is flexing their market share here. Although reality hurts doesn't it Mac fanboys?

Mac's don't let you choose: That is very very true hardware wise. As a PC builder, at least companies like HP, Dell, etc. let you customize your computers. Mac (the hardware side) doesn't really do that. People also say that Mac hardware is well built. Although that is true, that is extremely false when it comes to their laptop LCD screen. The most common problem by far at a computer repair shop that does Mac repair I've seen is LCD cracks. Although yes that is partially a user problem also, but their screens are not that well protected regardless. Also ever try working on a laptop Mac? Try to replace the hard drive one day. Ya not as easy to do in a Mac. For sometime who likes to repair things themselves, a Mac is not easy.

Also, MAC's don't come standard with right click ;-)

Balmer is such a bonehead... WTF doesnt MS go after Apple with a BALLS-OUT Xfinity system or team up with Nvidia to showcase their 3D-Vision packages.

I personally stopped using Windows based systems for every day use a long time ago, unless playing games. My sys trip-boots Ubuntu 10.4 for day to day stuff (web/music/movies with full upnp) Mac OS for music production with Ableton/Reason and Vista Ultimatex64 for gaming.

Any Microsoft execs wanna give me a job and I'll show you how the hell to market your platform? You apparently have nobody in-house that know wtf they are doing!

If you want to overcome the malware issue you GOT to bring more to the table than this weak ass shit... Stop marketing to the bottom feeders of the consumer market.

[citation][nom]Mikeadelic[/nom]I can't help but laugh at the fact that you spent all that time writing your post, only to get thumbed down and hidden away. lol fail.[/citation]
Fail? People actually prefer reading "thumbed down and hidden away" comments then the loser comments that basically get thumbed up...particularly this article.

This ad campaign by M$ is essentially only targeting the computer idiots...they advocated the crappy Vista in just the same way and M$ only admitted Vista's failure when Win7 a.k.a. Vista SP1 came out. If gaming was just as abundant on Mac/Linux, I GUARANTEE M$ wouldn't have such a large market share. M$ fanboi trollers plz thumb down!!

Wow, this was done poorly.. I see your point author, but poorly delivered. Yes let's over use the word "many PCs..." not "all PCs," and much of the data is incorrect. For instance, MacBook, MacbookPro, and iMacs all come with memory card readers, you distinctly said NO macs do... I connect my mac to my xbox seamlessly, it was actually easier than getting my girlfriends PC laptop to connect because of win 7 firewall (had to disable it).

on that point, i've never networked a computer, or shared files easier than with my mac. I don't know if the author has used a mac, or just went to an Apple store and played with a demo machine for about 3 minutes and based his or her accusation from this experience.

The shortcut keys are different, and the mouse is different? Please, friend.. there's 50 million mice models out there, all different. Oh yes, Macs have been right clicking for quite some time too. yes the shortcut keys are different: copy is cmd+c instead of ctrl +c ... and i can easily do this: ©, wish I could do a copyright symbol so easily on a PC, would help being a graphic designer...

Please, you have an opinion, you're free to share it, but if you're going to bash another product, please use accurate information– not inaccurate rubbish in addition to ambiguous claims about how awesome your own product is. I still own a win7 machine, and a Mac... would you like me to rewrite this for you? I'll be a lot more objective because I believe both PC and Mac have their strengths, and weaknesses...

Actually they didn't mentioned that Mac's can't read memory cards, they mentioned they can't read Memory Sticks. Apples can only read SD cards out of the box.

The Mac can't connect seamlessly to an Xbox 360 because out of the box you simply can't do it. The Xbox 360 uses UPnP AV protocol, something that the Mac OS X don't support. Of course you can fix that with third party software.

Also don't you think turning off the firewall is a bit drastic? And then people complain about security. If you're using the Windows 7 built in firewall this is easily solved with few clicks to permit Media Center Extensions traffic through the firewall.

[citation][nom]xjchcxx[/nom]I'll be a lot more objective because I believe both PC and Mac have their strengths, and weaknesses...[/citation]
True, and I hope it stays that way for competition sake.

I think both op. system is find the person who need!
You can learn the windows in the school and the few first lessons you learned what is the Blue screen XD or you have a question What is it doing only thinking and some times freezing.Everybody know lot of computer in the world run microsoft operation system. The writers don't write perfect code because made millions of combinations hardware compatibility to have run this systems.
Mac is premium category system.People dont't like to wait when the system going to respond.Mac system writers only have couple 10-20 combinations of hardware to write stable and fast system.
When you haven't got lot money choose microsoft. When you need stable and fast system spare more money and choose Mac.
When everybody compare win and mac notebook see the power/battery/price.
For example I need 6-8 hours battery and dont't want loose lot's of data i choose mac.Because i have this for mac.I never seen windows laptop 13.3" or more bigger screen to do this.If i want i play my flavorit games example blizzard games (starcraft 1-2,warcraft 3+TFT,Diablo 2+LOD)
Valve games run too in mac and crysis too.I really don't need too much but everything is run smoothly and stable on Mac.
See any expensive notebooks 1000+ pounds if you see vga 5850 or more powerfull the battery time is not more than 2 maximum 3 hours. And you don't have secon crap vga to do some work or sit the garden or the park somewhere.
I want to tell win users for reinstall and alwalys repair something on the pc.Mac users simply uses everything and everywhere anytime.
I use win system 10 years and now i drop this and buy a macbook pro.
Reason if you make everything is perfect for windows alwaly have a present firefox is death every day or the system is too busy when don't do anything and the most crap think every windows booting is still slower and slower freash win is booting 20 sec approx 5 month old win is booting 1-2 minutes and busy lots of time when you need to do your work.
I Don't want to angry my system and i want to mac XD

Killingtears

I guess it depends upon your point of view on many of those "issues". Microsoft is notorious for coming up with new variations of known formats (example, "Office Open XML") just to keep the rest of the world from sharing or using anything but Microsoft products.

I make my own computers, they are faster then yours. LOL @ stock CPU clock

[citation][nom]doogansquest[/nom]I always love the Macboy argument of "Well Macs get less viruses and malware..."

No they don't. They simply have such a small share of the market compared to Windows-based PC's, that software companies usually only write for the Windows market. As a result, all of the malicious hackers only need to write worms, trojans, etc., based on that platform to reach a large percentage of computers in a network.[/citation]
No arguments there.

[citation][nom]doogansquest[/nom]Furthermore, a Mac user needs only to frequent porn or other such nonsense to suffer the same consequences.[/citation]
Though to be fair, a Mac user would get to go through a LOT more porn before anything starts to happen, given that mac-malware is spread out pretty thin.

[citation][nom]doogansquest[/nom]As to the "Mac OS is easier"... no it isn't. It's more buggy than Windows 7, and dictates what you, the user can do. Windows is completely moddable, and is limited only by the user, not by software parameters.[/citation]
So write your own damn software!
Using both on a regular basis, I can honestly say that every word of this is bunk. I run into just as many bugs, freezes and hang ups in both OS's.

And in fact, it's no harder to write code to customize OS X than it is to write the same code for Windows. There's just less motivation for people to do it (and fewer people who know or bother to learn how) because people who use OS X generally like the way it looks and feels, and the way it's laid out; factor in the proportion of Mac users to PC users (assuming that discontent with the GUI is equal) and it's already not worth coding software to customize OS X unless you want to do it for yourself. Then, consider that the proportion of Mac users who are satisfied with OS X's GUI is greater than the proportion of Windows users who are satisfied with the Windows GUI…well then it's no wonder there isn't a lot out there in the way of customizing OS X. It's only easier to customize Windows because more people have contributed to do it for you to work with.

Back in the day, though, before OS X, you really couldn't beat Apple's OS customizabilty and hackability…you could completely redo the entire GUI to be anything you wanted and still have it run Mac programs. The only problem was that there was no point to running Mac programs.

TL;DR: If you have administrative access to the computer, any computer running any operating system, there is nothing you cannot get it to do if you know how (so long as the hardware is up to it!)

[citation][nom]doogansquest[/nom]If you want to be told what to do, use a Mac. If you want to do whatever you want, use Windows 7.[/citation]
If you know your way around Unix, you can do a damn sight more with OS X, its Unix-compatibility and its Unix command line utility than you could with Windows…Sure, there's the way Uncle Steve wants you to use his creations, but the same holds equally true for Microsoft as well (though in some different respects), and in both cases the only thing standing between you and doing whatever you want is a GUI meant to keep you out of "trouble"…

[citation][nom]adonn78[/nom]Most Mac users do not even use a free anti-virus or any at all.[/citation]
You know why that is?
There is almost nothing that is currently maintained as far as Anti-Virus for mac goes. There just isn't anything out there. And the ones that are there suck and offer no actual protection from anything that could actually cause damage. The very best anti-virus for Mac? The only "threats" it protects against are archaic viruses that were only ever a threat to the likes of OS 9, viruses that attack Macs with PowerPC CPUs (a rapidly declining demographic), Macs running Windows via desktop virtualization (going through Windows), and Macs with unpatched software; then it "protects" against malicious scripts that would trigger a very obvious and unsolicited admin-authentication prompt anyway, which would raise red flags for all but the dumbest of Mac AND PC users (the low end of the scale is fairly evenly weighted here, as there are more stupid PC users that would give dumb Mac users a run for their money than most people on Tom's actually realize). Then it goes and flags other things that aren't even close to being malicious processes.
So wait, why was Mac anti-virus useless again? Oh yeah, because the only threats to a Mac are security holes that haven't yet been discovered; if somebody does exploit one, it's found and dealt with fairly quickly, but being a "zero-day virus", the anti-virus would have no record of it's existence and would not even realize it was there. It's like wearing a rain coat while walking in the desert; it puts undue strain on your body in the intense heat while you're wearing protection for the wrong kind of threat. It's all the venomous critters you don't know are there hiding in the sand that you need to worry about, and even then preparation can only prevent so much damage.

TL;DR Part II So in the end, the Mac fanboi adage that Macs don't get viruses isn't just untrue, it's dangerous. And in the off chance that something does come along and finds one of OS X's rare security holes to exploit, you're screwed and nothing can stop it. So much for "advanced security features", eh Apple?
