Marv, since the government has not reformed SS system, have placed their hands in the pot to fund their stupid pet project wars, have not raised taxes based on the increase retired population....I will not have a public retirement! I will have nothing! You, oldman, chunky, and JDJ should be blessed that you have money still in the pot when you decide to end your commitment to work.

When SS started, there were an average of +10 working persons contributing for every 1 retired person. Now, as of 2030, it will be 2.2 working persons for every 1 retiree! When I retire in in the latter 20XX era...It will be nearly one to one...unless there is a mass die off of the baby boomers, or a swift bout of influenza that takes out the young population, or even a government restructuring of SS, then the path we are on is not pretty.

Socialist states are jealous of our system because it works so well. We have the best SS and Retirements package in the world. We must keep it on the path of mutual construction for many generations, until a new system that will replace SS comes along. ( Which will happen, but not in any of our times.)

FDR was setting it up to answer the call to the increase elderly population in the United States. It was a great plan and it worked. Now, it is a vacuum for all tax purposes.

Today, impoverish elderly population is about 7%.

Genius I worked for this pension all my life okay! You sound like some young kid who lives in a fantasy world.

Back when he started it, the average person didn't live that long after retirement. Today, we see people living 20+ years after retirement, instead of the original 4-7 years.

True. People now a days can get better gas mileage. I say we work them longer. Instead of 40 years, make it 45-50 years of serivce! Then retire at 70. Heck, my grandfather can still work and do heavy jobs...and he is in his mid 70's!

Than I apologize for me comments I made to you. These are deadbeats you are talking about them who want money for nothing I agree with you.

And yet republicans are demonized for wanting to reform social programs because of this gross abuse that is helping pile on our 16 trillion dollar deficit (16,000,000,000,000$ ---> some people don't realize how huge this number really is.) and is putting more of a burden on the taxpayers yet they only care about the rich.... Wait what???

Exactly. Our debt will crush us one day. That is why I prepare for the worst.
It also baffles me that making a balanced budget is an extreme position.

no unfinded liabilities are a whole other debt.

US Federal Debt: 15.98 Trill
US Deficit per anum: 1.21 Trill and reducing
US Total Debt: 59.96 Trill
US Unfunded Liabilities: 120 Trill

over 98 Trill in total available assets and note value. Basically we have more debt that assets total!

Well Marv money does make the world go around. Unless you live in some fantasy world, this is true. When did making money become a bad thing in America? That is what I want to know.

It becomes bad when it is your life's goal to collect as much as possible...by any means necessary.

I am all for making as much as you desire; however, there should be a logical limit by an individual on how much is too much. Do I know what that limit is...no. Do I have a personal limit...yes. That is just me.

Surprised to see this thread still going.

Obama & particularly Biden are out of ideas, have absolutely no record to stand on concerning fixing the deficit and economy, and have resorted to trying their best to demonize Romney since they have little other ammunition in their cartridge belts. Obama stated some 3 years ago that if he didn't cut the deficit in half by 2012, then America should elect a new president. Best advice he's given in 4 years, and we should take it..

I'm hoping the American people are smart enough to realize that his president didn't deliver anything good to the country. Healthcare is still on the fence but it isn't looking good.

Should be a no-brainer to elect someone else instead of four more years of nothing.

Right! WTF?! I would love to be so financially secure that I only had to pay 15% capital gains!

And, when did the Middle Class in America become a bargaining chip for the Democrats to ensure the continuation of entitlement programs. It was the Middle Class in America that fed the federal leviathan with tax dollars in order to build and enlarge entitlements!

Divide and conquer. Pit the middle class against the 'rich.' Less rich people. Lower income people tend to not vote as much and are dependent on the gov't, they're easy to control.

Middle class is the key to government getting bigger and having more control.

The lower class is dependent on the Government because unfortunately there our no jobs at all now. What do you want them to do go rob a bank if there is no steady income going into the family. They depend on welfare and other forms of payment from the Government.

So we make them more dependent on the government so that they never find a job; that makes sense. Maybe if we pursued reforms to open up jobs like cutting taxes on small businesses. We have the highest Corporate tax rate in out of all the developed countries in the world- http://blog.heritage.org/2012/03/30/no-fooling-u-s-now-has-highest-corporate-tax-rate-in-the-world/ . It is plain and simple the government is restricting job growth with higher taxes and countless regulations.

Not to mention the redistribution of wealth in this nation already exceeds Britain, Canada and other nations.
Britain's tax distribution is less progressive than America's, with the top 1 percent paying about 24 percent of the total income taxes in the U.K. In the United States, the same group pays more than 35 percent. The top 10 percent in Britain pays 55 percent of income taxes, while in America the top 10 percent pays 59 percent.
- And Britain is supposed to be the socialist country...

Yet the rich need to pay more. It just doesn't make sense. We will loose our rich if that happens and who will pay for all of the social programs that the democrats love?

Really? No jobs? I see plenty of jobs everywhere that pay from just above minimum wage up to almost $20. My girlfriend is having problems hiring entry level people right now to work 8:30 - 5:30 MF. Requirements? Speak clearly, have transportation, must wear dress clothes. Pay is $11 to $15 starting. The job is in the finance industry.

My apartment complex is struggling to find a leasing agent. They greet people when they come into the lease office, show apartments, and have them fill out paperwork. Answer the phone, etc. Basic stuff. Pay is $11-$13, no previous experience required.

I see a lot of jobs. What I'm not seeing is a lot of people applying to the jobs who can meet the basic requirements.

The GF has one employee under her who is pissed off. Why is she pissed? She has to actually do her job. She makes 100-125 phone calls in an 8 hour period for following up on missed payments, checking up on their finance loans, etc. The job requirement is to make 250 phone calls in an 8 hour day. You don't have to talk to 250 people, you just have to dial that many numbers from the computer screen. Not hard at all.. that is if you're not working with customers, making a bank run, etc. If you had nothing to do at all.
She's pissed. She thinks she's working hard enough right now even though the location is not preforming well. Her biggest grip? Since my GF took over this week, she's not allowed to smoke pot during work.

Jobs are there, people are lazy. Getting a gov't check has become too easy.
