hey guys, im new here, just a quick question to confirm this chip is dead.

swapped a t2080 for a t5500, and three boots later the system froze and when restarted, would not boot.

so i tested the t5500 in another laptop and same result, just checking to see if the cpu can be confirmed dead....

i would imagine so, but just curious as to why it happened 3 boots after swap....thanks in advance!

My guess would be overheating.

Sounds like it's dead alright.
Thermally and electrically those CPUs are pretty robust. The likely source of failure I can think of is physical damage to the die caused by the heatsink assembly. They're fragile bare die afterall and chipping the edge is common.
