hey guys i dont know much about internet connectors in the computer but i would like to upgrade my modem.. the question is that if i upgrade my modem will i exp any faster connection? iv used this modem for over 5 years i think and never upgraded lol also if i get a new router will it make my internet faster? right now when i download from firefox i get around 60-100 kbs and i know its crappy but if i upgrade my router and modem will it change or stay the same? What kind of modems are good i know there is alot of routers so thats why i need help chosing a modem since there si a few. whats a good modem right now to buy?

I have an old speedstream 5100 which I believe is about five yours old. I get about 330 kbs up and 130 down for actual performance. I be willing to bet if I upgraded my dsl it would go even faster. The modem is typically not the bottleneck but your distance from a dsl source might be (I assume cable isn't going that slow). I believe most modems are good up to 10 mbps so unless your approaching half that in download I wouldn't worry. As far as routers go typically no you will not get faster internet the exception being with bittorrent connections where you can connect to more sources. If you want faster service go with a different provider or pay for a speed upgrade. In my area I think there up to 5mps dsl even though I haven't seen anyone who would pay for it.

Well, if your router is really old, you might want to upgrade it and get a new one with more features. But you probably won't see a big speed difference. I'm on 15MBPS Fios, so i have never had trouble with slow internet. And it's really not that expensive.
