ok IW, i think you've already pretty much convinced every PC gamer who was planning on buying this game to either just pirate it or play on a console, after the news that there would be no dedicated server support. saying we wont be able to use console commands is kicking a dead horse.

in the interview they said custom keyboard/mouse control, text chat, and adjustable graphics are features....

WTF??!?!?!???!?!

(actually that WTF doesn't even come CLOSE to my disbelief).....

Ever since we were told there would be no Gears 2 on the PC, my friends and I have discussed the beginning of the end. Hardware enthusiasts continually push the pc past the point at which it costs much more money to play the latest games on a pc than a console, and chances are if you'll spend that money and know how to put it all together you also know how to torrent. Infinity Ward was my last pick for developer to abandon their hardcore fanbase, but I guess it's not beyond anyone. Valve constantly delays PC release dates specifically to "make sure the 360 version is ready at the same time," this game is a HUGE slap in the face to PC gamers, and Activision in general seems dead set on saying screw the PC. Blizzard was once a great and nice company, then they merged with activision, and now Starspawn is a thing of the past.

PC gaming is all but dead, friends. This is either the trumpet sounding the end or a wake up call, it's up to the industry to decide which.

A PC game without console... even if now I do appreciate playing video games as they were meant to be played, growing up tinkering with PC games is what got my foot in the door for my career in IT, this makes me sick.

[citation][nom]El_Capitan[/nom]There are three things people will do:1. Buy the Xbox 360 or PS3 version for people that have them.2. Buy the PC version regardless of the lack of features.3. Make a statement and NOT buy the PC version of the game. I wonder if people who have the PC version pre-ordered can opt out?[/citation]
That's precisely what I was trying to get at here. However, not buying the game doesn't show that you're a fan of games, it shows that you're a fan boy(of PC gaming). People who truly like games will play a good game no matter what platform it runs on, whether it be PS3, DS, iPhone, or PC.

PC gaming is not dead, yet. Eventually there will be a cross between console gaming and PC gaming (keyboards and mice for consoles). The only thing that's dead are enthusiast features, i.e. modding, dedicated server hosting, etc. Smaller companies will make their mark on the PC rather than any console. They're the ones that will influence the industry.

The only genre's that are still strong on PC are Simulation games (The Sims), MMORPG's (World of WarCraft) and RTS's (StarCraft). They're eventually going to head towards the console market. Right now, more people with hardware = more people that can buy the software.

I wasn't going to buy the game without dedicated servers, but they keep giving me reason to like that decision even more. 100 ms ping is "great?" 18 person is max? In CoD4 I ignored any server with a greater than 50 ms ping, and less than 24 players. 100 ms ping sucks when playing against someone with 0 ms. I'm sorry if I wanted a console experience I could have easily bought a console rather than a PC. $60 for a weekend of single player and a crap multiplayer isn't worth it.

It makes me wonder if this isn't IW's plan: make the PC version flop on purpose to then blame piracy in order to have an excuse to stop developing for PCs.

I have already canceled my pre-order for this game. I will not buy it with what they have done to it. These Dev's do not remember what got them to where they are now and that is us the PC Gamers.

I love games, and generally agree with you that it doesn't matter what platform it's on, but the PC does matter. We spend hundreds [thousands?] of dollars because for the last 15 years the experience on a console has been child's play in comparison to the treatment we get on a PC. This is coming from someone who's favorite console is the DS. It's not about power or "better graphics", though that is true, it's about having some control over our content. It's about the fact that mods kept half life's engine going for many years after it was released. The PC is the one gaming medium that we have a say in, but that's going down the drain.

To be honest, I won't be buying CODMW2, but not out of spite, I won't buy it because I bought every other call of duty game for the multiplayer, and so it's a worthless game to me.

What a joke. 9v9 max? No dedicated servers? Shame IW could ruin such a good thing. No chance in hell IW will be getting any of my money.

No, not buying the game shows that you're a fan of more than gaming. A few people I know got into the IT industry by starting out making modifications of games. It was more fun for them to make the game to their image. I enjoyed playing other people's mod's, too. StarCraft was big in RPG mods, which is probably why Blizzard decided to make a MMORPG with World of WarCraft.

People who like games will play it for the features. I won't buy PC games if they have DRM's (Fallout 3 was my first and last experience). I won't buy PC games if they don't have mod capability (Mount & Blade is an awesome game in it's own right, but playing other people's mods like the Star Wars mod is a kick).

It's a statement. Enough people that make a statement, turns into a boycott. Boycott = worst possible scenario. Worst possible scenario = change in behavior.

I had actually been considering buying this game. I played a bit of CoD4, which was good, but I really haven't bothered with CoD since...probably CoD:UO or CoD2 (a guy in high school kind of killed it for me and my friends at the time). This game seemed like it might actually be worth looking into...and then no dedicated servers or console? As the exhasperated Chinese zookeeper said to the last male panda on the earth, f*** that! (ten points to whoever can guess where that's from, lol)

[citation][nom]Transmaniacon[/nom]Yea, its time to hop on the Battlefield Bad Company 2 bandwagon...hooray![/citation]

I always liked Battlefield's multiplayer more anyways. Woooo!

I'll probably buy MW2 but not for no fucking $60!!! i'll wait till Fry's or Best buy puts it on sale for under 40 bucks....which will happen before year's end...that and l4D2. if you wait for the price drop on sale it will come. it does every year and i buy my games then.

9v9 ... everything else being as it was (crappy) this is the ultimate deal breaker... I play FPS online to have a mini war 20 v 20 is the best.

And we see the next cod series release won't be coming out to PC due to terrible sales from their previous release. They aren't taking PC gaming seriously enough, the PC gaming market shouldn't care enough to buy this game. There are many other choices for warfare fps, ones that developer and publisher care about their customer base.

There is a fourth option...buy the console version and teamkill everyone in sight. If my online gaming experience is ruined, then I cannot help but share the love. What are they going to do? Ban me? Good luck with that. Been TK raging in Halo 3 for quite some time now. The most I get is kicked out...woooo. It is only a matter of time before we will meet again.

HOLY SHIT IW! WHAT THE HELL HAS GOTTEN INTO YOU?!

/rage

REALLY?! That is insane, I cannot believe they can develop the game like this and not expect a MASSIVE consumer backlash, this is insane. It's almost as if they are trying to push PC off the market and switch solely to consoles. If not, they're just turning the PC into another console. This is complete BS IW!
