I leave my computer on all the time, so I like the computer to turn off the monitor after a period of inactivity. However, if I use any screen saver other than the blank screen one, the monitor will not shut off, the screen saver just stays on. It's as though the computer detects the screen saver as computer activity, and doesn't shut down the monitor. Is this nomral? It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me that it should work this way.

I don't see why it shouldn't put your monitor into power-saving mode. Be sure you have the screen saver timeout as one thing, and then a Monitor Shutoff value in the Power options.

Sounds perfectly normal to me.

If you want the monitor to "go to sleep" after a pre-determined period of time, don't use a screensaver.

Screensavers are unnecessary in these days of modern, non-interlaced monitors. The only reason to continue to use one is just for fun.
