Hi all, this is my first forum post so please bear with me if I don't include certain information (not sure what y'all would need in order to help me).

I have a Spectre Z27 4K monitor connected to my Omen HP Laptop. Whenever I game, I have a few solid minutes of 60FPS+ gaming & no blackouts. After a while, my monitor turns black. It doesn't power off, it just doesn't project anything other than this illuminated blackness. The game is still happening in the backround. I can still hear the game & control my character. These blackouts happen every few seconds & they also last only a few seconds.

The monitor has 4 inputs: HDMI 1 & HDMI 2, a DisplayPort, and a DVI.

I normally use HDMI 1, which I believe is the input that does not support 4k.

Below is what is listed in the specs on Spectre's site for the monitor.
HDMI 1: 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, 4k2k @60Hz / HDMI 2: 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, 4k2k @30Hz

When it blacks out, the monitor is on HDMI 1 1920x1080 60hz.

Here are some things I've tried.
  • updating/reinstalling drivers
  • making sure every connection is actually plugged in securely
  • a new HDMI cable
  • Making sure that Linked Power Management is set to off
If anyone has any other ideas, I'm all ears. Also, I know I should post a detailed list of my laptop's specs but I'm not sure where to find the exact list that people want so I'll just list what I know off my head. Hope it helps a little bit!

NVIDIA GTX 965M
12Gb RAM
Intel i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz, 2592 Mhz, 4 Cores

I'd put it down to your GPU not being good enough to supply 4k and thus losing sync.
Check your frequency of monitor setup in display properties.
I'm sorry, I should've put this in the original post.

The monitor has 4 inputs: HDMI 1 & HDMI 2, a DisplayPort, and a DVI.

I normally use HDMI 1, which I believe is the input that does not support 4k.

Below is what is listed in the specs on Spectre's site for the monitor.

When it blacks out, the monitor is on HDMI 1 1920x1080 60hz.

Not sure if that helps or not but there it is.

Which drivers have you updated/reinstalled?
GPU Drivers? or Display Drivers? or Monitor Drivers

I had a similar issue with my monitors when trying to use G-sync.
I tried updating display drivers and GPU drivers to no avail.
After updating the monitor drivers, the issue was resolved.

The steps I took to update drivers (OS is Windows 10 for reference)
  1. Right-click start button, click 'device manager'
  2. Go to 'Monitors' and open the drop down list
  3. Right-click your monitor and click update driver.

Hopefully this will fix the issue.

If you have G-sync turned on, try playing with G-sync off
