I am looking at yielding my new gaming rig and want to put the Samsung XP841 M.2 ssd in at the fastest speeds to run my os. I will also likely run two GTX 970 or 980's in SLI.

I was originally planning on using the ASRock Extreme 6 board, but learned today that this motherboard will not run SLI with a M.2 ssd attached.

Question: Which motherboard will run this setup (at the fastest PCIe x4 speeds), SLI AND Allow for Win 8.1 Pro to be installed on the M.2 ssd?

I am thinking of the following:
Asus Z97 Pro
Asus Z97 Maximus VII Hero
Gigabyte Gaming 7
Or ???

I cannot tell from the websites if the M.2's speed is limited with SLI. If so, I do not want to use it then.

Thanks!

I think most of z97 motherboard support sli and cf
try this one - msi z97 gaming 5
http://www.msi.com/product/mb/Z97-GAMING-5.html#hero-overview

you can see it get the m.2 and sli support for sure
and also you can check the detail on the feature or spec list

I think the MSI board limits the M.2 speeds more than the ASRock does (not sure).

Here is my current, planned build and budget of $3-4k.
