Motherf*c%#r! New Card is toast! *update*

Got my new Radeon 9700 Pro (OEM) in today...

Too bad it dont work. It got shipped in a small US postal box, and it had a total of 25(!!) packing peanuts to protect it. Well try as they did, dont matter when all of these were on the component side, leaving the rest of it to just bang off of whatever the post office can throw it on.

Plugged it in, set everything all up, hit power, monitor led goes green, then I get a white screen of blinking squares, after a bit it flashes, blinks some colored squares, and I hear my windows start sound. No picture. Next I check my woltage. I figure the 400w antec is up to the challenge, and my trusty VOM confirms that. 12.4 v on the 12v rail 5.6 on the 5v rail.

Then I throw back in my 8500, check online for bios, or other compatability problems with my Abit KX7-333 board. Dont find any probs, and I have the newest bios.

So now I am left to email teh guy I bought it from, and bi*ch here....

Well, just got off the phone with ATI, and they said that if I cant get it working with a new bios on my mobo, they can rma it for a newer revision. I got the thing to post clearly on my Dell station at work, so i know its not the card. We will see later on when I get home. Im craving the level of graphics that this thing promises!

Yep, it pisses me off.. Been waiting all week for it. I got it on ebay from a guy with a decent feedback. Hopefully I will hear from him by tomorrow. If I dont hear back, I did pay with a credit card, and can stop payment. But I doubt it will go that way.

And this all comes after my trouble at work with video cards... Look at my other post from this evening.

What board version/revision do you have? I've heard that some of the early 1.0 and 1.1 OEM boards have problems with some chipsets (VIA KT400) for example. Check your version, then check google for reference. Most/all of these board were supposed to be fixed, but I'm sure many people would rather simply sell their stock. TO be sure I think you need revision 1.3 I remember reading that somewhere.

Its a revision A01.. That might explain it. I just trew it into my station here at work, and it posted fine. its an intel chipset which makes me believe you are right.. this sucks. Any way to flash the thing? Or is it a hardware issue?

From what I can see, the card has no problems with my chipset, maybe just the board. The main problem I am seing is with those boards with AGP 8x.

Mine is a KT333 Abit KX7-333. Ive seen a few post from people running the same chipset with no problems.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, work, plus reading all the other posts...
Hope all goes well with ATI. Yeah I can't even remember where I read that article, but check on Google maybe there's something there. Man Too much info in the brain: Work, University, then Here (plus reading 10 magazine a month from the Economist and Le Monde~Diplomatique to Maximum PC and Stuff US&UK + FHM US&UK). Yeah plus skiing and hockey!
And on the weekend, now off to the Autoshow to reasearch next years stuff and contemplate a Jeep Liberty. Well I'm now officially sharing too much. Gonna go to bed!
