so i haven't seen any 290's going out of stock in the past week or so.. i wonder if the litecoin bubble popped.

im gpu-less at the moment, but selling my 7970 for twice what i paid for was a no-brainer

It should. There are reviews that show the Asus R9 290X DCUII keeping its 1050MHz core without breaking a sweat. It only would drop between level loads which is normal.

What is weird is that I cannot find anything except the Gigabyte Windforce for sale. I have not seen this or the DCUII yet and the Windforce has been on Egg for over a week.

Here is a nice video to demonstrate that the 290s are still crap compared to the 780 even with water, and being almost 600$ for non reference models, there is no point to these anymore

Edit: Keep downvoting fanboys, results are there regardless of your own biased opinion, the 290 was a decent card at 400$, with all thermal limitations removed the gtx 780 IS STILL BETTER, and now cheaper.

The reason 290s are expensive is because people actually buy them in good amounts.

Miners buy them for litecoin mining, not gaming use, which they were intended for, either way price is price, and the 290 is no longer good value or better than a 780.

Price I will agree with you on. They should have never let the price jump that much.

But in terms of raw performance? They are so spot on it is hilarious that you are pushing so much hate. They saw a 2FPS difference at best which could be considered negligible.

I will say this, the 290 series is better equipped for higher resolutions later down the road with the extra 1GB VRAM and wider memory bus.

I'd say pushing hate is a little hard as I was looking to buy a non ref 290 myself. Everything taken into consideration, how long do you think it will take for 1440p to become mainstream? Or even 4k to be priced below 1000$, vram and memory bandwith make no difference unless you're strictly gaming on multi monitors etc or high resolutions which majority of people arent yet, and if you are spending that kind of money on displays you will most likely have the funds to get 780ti's or titans. Like I said at 400$ the 290 was a very desirable card, at 520 for ref and almost 600 for non ref that negligible 2fps is not worth the extra ~100$ anyway you look at it. There is no hate just being realistic, everyone pumped the 290 cause it was priced 100$ less than the 780 and it performed similarly, now its the other way around.

This is when I'll seriously consider getting rid of my EVGA GTX 770, and getting a R9 290 (x).

Otherwise, I just can't tolerate 95C degree temps in my room coming from a card. Thats crazy hot. My Superclocked GTX 770 peaks around 65 to 68C.

I hope so. I was hoping to get one at the 450-ish range since the ref designs were 400-ish. Even that is a tough sell when my lightning 7970 is still going strong.

Don't understand why people is complaining about high temps, when the card will be replaced in few years. Same goes for the 3GB memory being not enough cause 1440p is coming. By the time 1440 is out with a good price, your 780 will be history.

1440p is not super overly expensive now and 3gb is plenty. The 780ti handles itself well in 1440p but next year when maxwell comes out all the current cards will be a thing of the past anyway.

"AMD should increase production to restore the price to original levels"
its not amd, its the online retailers ( for example, newegg). these stores are charging more because everyone is buying them, mostly for scrypt mining. i know i just ordered a 290 reference edition and i cant wait to start mining with it, im assuming to make about 10 dollars a day on this card, so within 2 weeks the price increase will mean nothing to me. not to mention its a beast graphics card. at least right now im not worried about the heat, since i can open my windows for about 40-35 seconds and cool down the room about 15 degrees, but i mean by the summer ill probably be invested into something more powerful, and energy efficient.

I was going to pick up a 290 when it was closer to $400 and the non reference cards started to become available, but with the price jump I ended up getting MSI 780 lightning off newegg for about $500. First Nvidia card i have purchased since my 8800GT (the last 3 cards have all been AMD cards). I agree with Maxiim, at $400 the card was a steal, especially when the 780 were at $650.
