My netgear router vs dlink N

im not having any troubles w/ my router. im currently connected to in via LAN port. the rest of the house gets around 2 bars when downstairs but ive heard great things about the d link N router. am i going 2 see any performance improvements via lan? im the only comp hooked up to it lan and around 3 wireless networks (laptop) just for every day net searching and some light downloading itunes mainly. i use my comp for gaming and a lot of torrent downloading.

If you're satisfied w/ your current router, and you're connected via wire yourself for gaming purposes, and it's just a wireless signal issue for others, it might be more effective (both in terms of performance and cost) to use a wireless repeater. What often happens w/ a new router under such circumstances is that you end up w/ a nice new router (and who doesn’t like that), but unfortunately the same old problems.

That’s a heck of a deal for a pair of 200mbps HomePlug AV compatible powerline adapters, esp. considering one of them is a full-blown wireless G adapter. So you connect one to your current router, place the other (presumably the wireless router) downstairs close to those needing a better wireless signal, thus creating a local wireless hotspot w/ a very strong signal. IOW, unlike a repeater bridge that uses wireless to bridge, you use your home wiring to form that bridge.

The only issue w/ powerline is that performance varies widely because home wiring varies widely, and in a few cases, may not work at all due to local issues (bad wiring, having to cross circuits between AC outlets, etc.). But it is another option worth considering if wireless is problematic in your location.

The primary difference is that the D-Link DIR-825 has dual band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) instead of a single band for the D-Link DIR-655.
