okay i was playing B&W 2 the other day and i beleive my gfx card (agp nvidia 7600gs) conked out, im not a hundred percent shure what really happened, but i think it may have overheated.

a couple of days before this i had talked about modding my case for better airflow anyways, and after this occorance i think it might have become a must, the following is pictures of the current computer and some documentation on what i plan to do to it, none of this is set in stone right now and it may not happen, because of money shortages

first of all pics of the current case and setup and specs for those wondering
Specs:
AMD Athalon XP 2600+ (2.08 GHz)
1 Gb Kingston memory (PC 2700)
EVGA NVidia 7600GS 256MB (AGP)
Western Digital Caviar 120 Gb (master, 5200 rpm)
Western Digital Caviar 250 Gb (slave, 7200 rpm)
WinTV pvr-150 video capture card
Creative Audio PCI Sound Card

Setup and inside:

the sutup i have, not much, but i love my dualscreen, even though they dont match.

the case now, as you can see i drink a lot of diet mt. dew

This is the inside of the beast, and now you can see the current layout of the case including the vertically mounted hard drives in the front of the case, i heard this (vertically mounted hard drives) was bad and was wondering if there was any truth to it.

Now, on to the plans:
in the first stage the power scource will be replaced with a higher wattage one that has modular cable so as to get rid of the current cluster of cables and only have cables i need.

also the dvd drive and broken cd-rw drive will be replaced with a single dvd-rw drive that will be placed in the lower mounting bay leaving room for stage 2 of the mod.

areas of interest boxed in red

in the second stage of the mod, the old back fan will be replaced with a fan that is the same size but has blue LED's, the space in the top of the case left by the empty drive hole will be filled with another blue LED fan, and over the graphics card and other cards will be a third blue LED fan. the back fan will be an 80 mm exhaust while the top will be a 120 mm exhast and the side will be a 120 mm intake. i estimate the airflow to be somewhat like this (indicated in blue):

sorry for the rudimentary 2d representation but im without a fancy fluid dynamics engine (not that anybody else has one to play with either)

okay the last stage of the mod will be the fun one and the main asthetic change. this involves the two new fan holes and a cool hp logo mod that i thought up (at least i thought it was a cool idea)

i have an idea for the fan cover design, but ideas are welcomed, this fan design will also be on the top of the case where the 120 mm outtake will be. the hp logo will have acrillic or plexi put on the back as to be closed but give a blue glow and a sneak peak of the inside.

now to the gloomy part, this mod requires 100 dollars for the power source and dvd writer, dont get me wrong i am not begging for money, i have the money, it is just going towards college and an uber sweet birthday kick-in gift. so this post is just kind of to share my ideas and see if anybody out there has any helpful hints or reasons why i shouldn't do something that i showed in the plan. anyways thanks for your time and any help or suggestions you may or may not give. if anything this mod will just be put off till the end of the summer.

p.s. (if you have an idea for an uber sweet fan cover, sketch it in paint or any program, or scan it to you computer, and send it to me at beliskner_thor@yahoo.com and maybe it will become part of the final design.

oh and the sweet birthday present:

I have a Gigabyte 7600gt with Silent Pipe II passive cooling. Plugging the case vents alows all incoming air to enter through the video card. An 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper lowered my video card temps by 8 degrees C! Pics are coming soon the the Show Off Your Rig post. I'm going with a 100mm Scythe fan for my exhaust (to be installed this afternoon, stock fan was a 92mm).
Oh yeah...i was looking at the pics. One question, are you really going to be able to fit a 120mm fan on top as a blow hole/exhaust? Don't cut anything till you measure at least twice!!
