Question My RAM clock speed is capped at 800Mhz when it should reach up to 3200Mhz ?

Recently I noticed that my Ram clock speed was capped at 800Mhz, and because I have an igpu, so did my Vram clock speed (which only runs at either 800Mhz or 400mhz and no other values) , even though before it was reaching up to 3000 Mhz.

Laptop: Lenovo IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 14"
_OS : Windows 11
_Specs :
CPU : amd ryzen 7-8845HS
iGPU : amd radeon 780m
Memory : 16GB Lpddr5x 6400Mhz (soldered ram)
Storage : 512GB ssd nvme PCIe gen 4
_The laptop is basically new (I bought in January on the lenovo store)

Here is a list of things that I did before the problem occurred :
_I installed msi afterburner and RTSS (I don't suspect them because I remember seeing the memory clock speed of 2000ish Mhz on the afterburner interface).
_I did an update of amd software.
_Lastly I did a clean up with bitdefender optimiser (after which bizzare looking cardboard boxes appeared on my app icons).

After all those above I noticed on afterburner and cpu-z that my memory clock speed was stuck at 800mhz even in games and stress tests.

Things I tried so far :
_I did a factory reset and a clean download of windows plus a bios reset.
_I reinstalled all the drivers from the official lenovo website.
_I disabled VBS

here is the reading in amd software
and msi afterburner
and cpu-z

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

You should've include the SKU to your Lenovo IdeaPad laptop. Using the serial number on the bottom of the laptop on Lenovo's support site, have you seen if the laptop is pending any BIOS updates?

I did a factory reset and a clean download of windows plus a bios reset.
So you reinstalled the OS after recreating your bootable USB installer for the OS, installing said OS in offline mode? Later manually installing all drivers in an elevated command?, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator?

some software may see it as 800mhz its normal.

what 6400 represents transfer rate. not clock speed.

try running
hwinfo 64

put a heavy load on it

example below
A DDR5-6400 memory kit might have a memory controller clock speed of 800 MHz, but this doesn't mean the memory itself is running at 800 MHz. The 6400 MT/s represents the data transfer rate, not the clock speed of the memory controller.

According to Lenovo vantage I have the latest version of the bios.
I used the cloud download option in the reset menu and not a bpotable USB installer, and yes after that I installed all the drivers (compatible with my laptop of course) that I've found in the lenovo website.

I think you are confusing some stuff here. You are looking at the GPU VRAM clock speed, not your RAM. The base memory clock frequency of the Radeon 780M is 800 MHz and can boost up to 3000 MHz. If it does not go above 800 MHz it's because it's stuck at base clock speed.

Since it happened after you installed MSI Afterburner and updated the AMD software (I assume you are talking about Adrenalin), I would definitely uninstall Afterburner, uninstall the Radeon driver and Adrenalin, and then reinstall Adrenalin and the driver. See if your vram boost normally. MSI Afterburner can do a big mess if you update the graphics driver while it's running in background.

About the Bitdefender "optmizer", you should probably not use that. It's useless at best.

What I found was weird is that a week ago the softwares were reading 2000ish MHz, and also that they only show two constant values, it's either 800Mhz or 400Mhz (in both Ram and vram clock speeds)

it can be a software bug its pretty harmless.

best way i can put it 3200 on ddr4 is transfer speed clock speed is 1600

you said you saw 2000 ish mhz which checks out as that would align with fact the max clock would be 3200.

it wont always jump to highest clock unless its pushed hard also make sure your power plan is in performance mode or full power not eco mode or normal.

some software can read it as 800mhz

thats why i said use hwinfo it shows it correctly.

Isn't my Ram and vram clock speeds supposed to be the same because I have an igpu and therefore no real vram?
Here are some readings i got in game , note that I was running it at a stable 60fps in ultra before the whole problem occured , and now it's only running at 30 in very low settings.
As for afterburner and amd software , I did a complete reset of my laptop so I guess it got rid of them.

I don't think it's a but because I got a huge performance decrease in games, here are some readings i got in game .

you need the amd software it controls the apu also change power plan to performance if its on balance it will pull power or lock down the chip.

from what i can see your gpu clock speed is 2200mhz which is shy of the 2700mhz it should reach.
the ram speed is seperated.

gpu clock and ram speed are different

Yes you are right about the vram for integrated GPU. Sorry.

So, you did a Windows reset and still get the same problem? Did you reinstalled the graphics driver after the reset? And Adrenalin? How is the temperature of the CPU/GPU? If the fan stopped working the GPU might get stuck to base clock because it overheats.

There is an older version of amd software installed by default on my laptop .
and here are some readings i got on HWinfo while doing a stress test on Occt.

My CPU / GPU temps are around 70 to 80 degrees, and the GPU runs normally at around 2000Mhz but the Vram stays stuck at 800, same thing for the Ram.

also what games are you playing on i ultra is a big ask for a 780m 1080p medium is as high as i would go. turn of shadows.
I was playing on ultra in small games tho 😅, there were some games I couldn't even launch because of "the lack of vram available".

Edit
And in the game I showed everything was set to very low or disable, so a part from the ram clock speed (and also the vram clock speed) being cut to a fourth of what it was I don't see another reason for this sudden decrease in performance.

are you plugged into the wall ?

the laptop will downclock the gpu if its not plugged in. or when it hits to a certain battery point

heres a review on your laptop.

So the vram max clock speed of 1000MHZ checks out with the in game readings, but the 3200Mhz of the ram I think i'm quite far from it

check cpu ram it might not show up in msi afterburner because its a apu but the max clock is 1067 for gpu so thats as much of that speed its going to pull tops.

again it could be the way lenovo wired the ram chips. ram is very fickle in laptops apus give me a headache.

Here is what I got in a benchmark OCCT , I don't kwon what's that memory controller clock but it's at the same 800 of my ram.
And i don't see it being a hardware issue because it happend instantly,I didn't even restart my pc that my clock speed was stuck at 800Mhz , it was normal all day long and after I launched the newest version of amd software I saw that the ram clock speed was at 800Mhz , which was not normal cause a minute ago when i checked on afterburner it was at 2300, after which I returned to afterburned and that it was capped at a weired 800Mhz.
I can see how it could give headaches in the long term , I had this laptop for 3 months and it's allready dying on me😭

i dont think it is dieing i think they have just tied the gpu memory clock to 800.

software below
https://www.cpuid.com/downloads/cpu-z/cpu-z_2.15-en.exe

try gpu z see if you see what the review shows they use this to measure the gpu

are you sure you saw it go to 2300 that could have been the gpu clock not the ram speed.

as you can see in the notebook tech they had 800 as well

The problem here is not the vram clock because as we saw earlier it's max is 1000, but the problem is more with the ram doing a "bottleneck" to the whole laptop
here's what i got in gpu z
and also this I think there is a little bug with the readings

i believe so as well its part of the curse with apus.

ive used them for years and software can just read stuff wrong. id test different games and make sure your amd adrenaline software is fully up to date.
