I has looking a nas, Synology, Qnap and Tranquilpc which are all pretty pricey and unsure of some of the support from two of them so maybe it could be better to build my own Nas/media server? Would be used as Teamspeak server, movies, music streaming and photos maybe even a web server. Ive picked some items I like but am no way an expert so came here for some advice and help?

case love this small case for 4 2TB drives

Not an expert.

I'd choose the nas software stack first, then find a set of hardware parts that is known compatible.

You going to run linux as the basis for the nas server ? Maybe FreeNAS, CryptoNAS, NASLite, Gluster, Openfiler or Ubuntu TurnKey File Server. or something else linux?

Or Windows Home Server? Or win7 ? or something else ?

I suspect one of the dedicated NAS loads will be better for you than a full function copy of windows, but you know your use case best. If you are using 3 or more drives then I'd make sure that you have support for raid5, and that's how i'd run the disks. Also think thru your backup strategy, if any. (The price of disks is so low now that keeping day old backup copies on disk works for everything except video. Much easier than re-ripping or re-downloading all music following an accidental format/erase of a drive. Raid should (!) protect against hw fails, it's sw fails and operational problems that eat data)

4 2tb drives + 4 gb of ram

Whats the + side of going nas apart from it should work out the box? If I got one I dont think I can install anything on it other than 3rd party apps and standard?
