Context: Hi, I need some guidance on the undervolting topic, I have a i7 7700K CPU and MSI z270 SLI PLUS Mobo, I have went through numerus videos about undervolting the CPU in the BIOS, I have done undervolting but I have used the "Override / Manual" CPU Voltage Mode and set it to 1.130v, It has been this way for months with no issues at all and while gaming or under load I get around 50-59c with no performance drop or clock decrease which is at 4400Mghz, But I'm concerned that it even stays at 1.130v even at idle which is also not a huge issue to me because the temps are around 25-35c while Idle and the CPU power is around 8 to 11Watts while Idle. The reason I haven't used offset is that if I decrease the voltage let's say "-0.0100v" then it will decrease it in both (Idle) and (Underload) states which is a stability problem because I have noticed my PC will freeze at idle since the voltage will go sometimes really low to the point where there is no power, I tried using "-0.050" which is stable and works good in both while at stress testing and idle but the temps aren't great, that was the reason I have added the "Override" mode.

My question is how do I make the CPU voltage "Auto" at Idle but only reach 1.130v or above it slightly while under load or stress or gaming etc.? So I don't want it to exceed 1.130v at all but can be under that range while idle.

As far as i know, you can't.

i7-7700K is one of the hottest running chip ever made and if your main issue is:
the temps aren't great
then get a better CPU cooler.

On "Auto", CPU consumes as much power as it needs. Same goes to voltage. Only when you put your PC to sleep, CPU voltages drop to the Sleep State voltages. But what you ask of, isn't possible in "Auto".

I already have the Noctua air cooler, It's great which makes my CPU temps at 60-68c, But I don't want my CPU to run at that temp while gaming "on some of the games, not all of them", I guess ill stick with the Override Mode which makes it go below 55c while gaming.

Anything below 80C is nothing to worry about and it really doesn't matter if CPU is at 50C, 60C or 70C.

If you'd have i9-13900K and you'd see the temps it runs at, you'd go crazy.

I had the exact same board with the 7700k on a system built in April 2017 with a 1080 Ti.

My temps were definitely on the high side... and what I did was get a delid tool which made the process idiot proof and then applied liquid metal to the die. It dropped my temps 15C so was well worth it IMO.

I was running a 360mm NZXT Kraken AIO.

What CPU cooler are you running?

I agree.

:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

After running with the 7700k and then a 10900k... I said no way to the 13900k and went 7950x3D with the new build. No regrets.

lol even after undervolting?

Pretty much.

With latest and greatest, running at 95C is the norm.

We optimized the voltages carefully, but do note that we often peaked at ~96-98C during stressful applications — right below the 100C throttle point. For reference, we regularly hit 100C at stock settings with our 280mm cooler, as you can see above in the multi-threaded stress test with the Core i9-13900K.

I don't a new CPU cooler i have the Noctua NH-12 and i get around 65c under load without undervolting, I undervolted to 1.130v and im between 45-55c underload which is great
