I am looking for something that can be used to capture video from my vcr and tv and encode the videos/movies into mpeg 1/2 so i can burn them to dvd's. now i am building a new comp, but i also have a laptop, so whats better, a usb tvtuner like the one pinnacle offers? or a tv card? and which one is the best?

Pinnacle has a USB 2.0 external device with hardware compression, it probably can't be beat. But if it COULD be beat, it would be by a hardware compression PCI card such as the Hauppauge PVR series.

Also, you would need a USB 2.0 port to take advantage of this performance potential, USB 1 is too slow.

so which would you reccomend? I haven't built my computer yet, because I was waiting to choose what i am going to do. but i figuer that i most deffinately need to build my new comp, because my laptop doesn't have a dvd burner, and I dont want to buy an external one. does the card use an agp pert or pci slot? which is cheaper, pinnacles usb, or the Hauppauge PVR series? and which is the best choice?

I like PCI cards because I've never fully trusted USB to be...smooth. But that's changing.

Yes, it's a PCI card. The TV-Tuner cards have no graphics outputs, only cable and video inputs. Same goes with the USB version
