I am currently running Windows 98, though in the past I have used Windows 2000 Pro successfully on the same exact hardware as now. Yet I had two switch back to my Win98 after a major W2K corruption a few months ago. Well now my Win 98 is giving me lots of problems and I want to switch back to W2K Pro or Win XP Pro. So I would like to ask those out there if running WinXP Pro on my current rig is realistic. The only reason Im asking this is because when I was running W2K Pro, everything was much quicker than my Win98 install.
Do you think that WinXP Pro would be significantly slower than my W2K Pro install? Please give me your honest opinion on this, as it will mean going with W2K or XP. Of course I am going to thoroughly check out my hardware for XP compatibility. (What about dual boot?) Thanks a lot and I look forward to any suggestions, or comments.
Okay here is my setup:
P3 750 with 100Mhz FSB, Slot 1 CPU
512MB of PC100 SDRAM
Abit BH6 Motherboard Slot 1(bought in Oct 98)
TNT 2 AGP Video card with 16MB Ram bought in May 97
SB Live Audio
6.4 Seagate HD that Has my current O/S Win 98
60 Gig WD 7200rpm HD, currently for storage.
(But this is where I want to Install the next O/S and Partition the drive into 6 different drives.)
ATA100 Add in card
Sony CDRW 8X January 2000
