Need to pick a new graphics card

hi my first time on the forums

i have had my pc for a year nearly now
and i need to upgrade my graphics card

at the moment i'm running a asus 9800 gt 512mb

i have just under $1000 to spend

ill be running some pretty heavy games so performance is a must

my mobo is a gigabyte p55a-ud4

i will also need a new case so any suggestions would be welcomed

this may or may not help but my cpu is a i7-860

ill be playing nearly every fps ever lol

what windows version do you have?if you have windows vista or xp.At your resolution go for a gtx 260 or a ati radeon hd 4890.If you are on windows 7 go for a gtx 460 or a ati radeon hd 5770(5770 is weaker than 4890 and 260 but still pretty good)

Plays crysis warhead(the most demanding game of all time)at 29-40 fps at 1680X1050 Resolution.so you get the idea on how other less demanding games will perform

way too overkill for ur resolution.a 5970 or gtx 480 is for rez up and above 1920X1080.For ur resolution the cards I listed are perfect

We need to know way more about your system before we can acutally help you.
What is your mobo, cpu, ram, psu.

With 1000 dollars you can get a really good GPU and a monitor upgrade.

he doesn't need an extreme power card at his rez.as i said at 1680X1050 I get 29-40 fps in crysis warhead.At 1600X1024 I get 35-50 fps at which crysis warhead is smooth as silk

Uhh yeah, but with 1000 dollars he can get a higher resolution monitor as well as a better GPU.....
