I recently upgraded my PC, transitioning from an older Intel setup to a more current AMD configuration, as recommended by a friend. However, I'm now facing unexpected performance issues, particularly in high-end games like 'Tomb Raider', which used to run smoothly on my old system.

Old PC Specs:

  • CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-9700 Eight-Core Processor (3.0GHz, 12 MB Cache)
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6GB
  • RAM: 16 GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 2400 MHz (2 x 8 GB)
  • Motherboard: ASUS® PRIME Z390-P (ATX, LGA1151, USB 3.1, SATA 6 GB/s)
New PC Specs:

  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 GAMING X AX (AM5, AMD B650, ATX), rev. 1.3
  • GPU: Sapphire PULSE AMD Radeon RX 7600 8GB
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB (2 x 16GB, 7200 MHz, DDR5)
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700 (AM5, 3.80 GHz, 8-Core)
Since this was my first time building a PC, I'm a bit concerned that I might have made a mistake during the assembly. However, I followed a detailed YouTube tutorial for the entire process, so I think I did everything correctly.

Despite the newer and theoretically more powerful hardware, I'm experiencing low FPS and general performance issues in games that my old PC handled without any problems.

I'm reaching out for any advice or insights on what might be causing these issues and how to fix them. Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

How are you measuring these performance issues? What resolution are you gaming at? How many displays?
  • Displays: I'm using two displays in my setup.
  • FPS Measurement: I've enabled the Steam in-built FPS counter for my games, and it's set to display in the right-left corner during gameplay. In 'Tomb Raider', for example, the FPS counter consistently shows around 14 FPS, which aligns with the sluggish and unsmooth motion I'm experiencing.
  • Resolution: is at 1920x1080, which is the same as I used on my old PC.

Make sure that your chipset (install first) and video drivers are fully up to date. Get directly from AMD.

Don't expect the 7600 to be a beast. It is mediocre for gaming and you may need to lower your graphics settings for optimal performance.

And the Windows install?
