I am looking for a decent gaming rig. One that has Windows OS preferably.

1) I will be using it for games and casual use. Surfing etc... I dont stream or make videos etc so not too concerned with that. Games wont be the high end graphics games like Crysis 3. Will be playing stuff like STALKER and maybe Day Z. Mostly RPGS
2) Based: UK (Scotland)
3) Budget: Preferably around £300, £400 if its a good deal
4) Mainly just the rig at the moment. I will pick up a keyboard and mouse. Will run through my LG LCD tv until I get money for a decent monitor. TV has full 1080p capability. Runs at 50hz I think. Again not looking to run high end graphics. Not to fussed about 1080p or 60 fps
6) No special needs. Would like it to be quite quiet
7)What???? Not really clued up on that stuff so wont be looking to over clock I dont think.

You can build a good games rig in the u.k. for £400 but it requires patience. You can build a medium games rig for £400 if you dont have any patience and dont mind messing about with it in 40 months.
I'm in the u.k. btw, and building one.

So I'm guessing the wait for a good rig is down to shopping around and looking for offers on the components?
I'd probably prefer to get one fairly soon.

you deffo want to build and not buy?
You can pick up NEW haswell i5 cpu's on ebay for £120, then an H81 board is
£40 odd, and 8 gig of ram is 60. W7 o.e.m. builder disk is £50, and a power supply is 40.then you need a case ,graphics card, hard drive and dvd player. Its do able, but not easy.

I use old cases. I also source some spares (like memory and hard drives) from C.E.X. though this takes a little guile. You can chop 60 off if you do that.80 if you re use a case.
Otherwise, you are down to a list of new AMD mid range parts.
I also have windows, which helps.

Tbh I'm thinking its going to be a bigger job than I anticipated. I'm just looking for the best bang for my buck so to speak with the least amount of hassle. I work as an electronic technician so I'm not to daunted by the physical aspect of putting it together. Its more what to do when its built I might struggle with

I've been looking at some built rigs but not too sure whats good and whats bad. Saw this one today. To me it looks decent but I'm guessing you could shed a bit more light on how far off the mark I am.

Thats a pile of crap. There is no operating system, the cpu is very weak,
(amd need twice the cores to get close to competing in games) there is no graphics card, the motherboard will be cheap shxt and the power supply isnt listed so you would have to replace it as soon as you bought a graphics card. Its junk.

Thats part of my problem then. I dont really know what to look for. I did realise I'd need to install the operating system but the rest of the stuff I had no clue about

Its easy to get conned. Note they dont even state the cpu in the specs, only its switching speed (edit; they show it all further down under some more adds. Msi board; rubbish.). Actually, yoyo have shafted there deal too, they put a teeny supply in there as well. That wouldnt run much of a graphics card. .

Yeah not looking to play top end games. I have an Xbox one so thats where I'll play the likes of BF4, COD, Titan fall, Elder scrolls online. Total rome is another I'm likely to play

this is £350 worth.
This leaves you £50 to get w7 off ebay, but you will have to get a case. total build cost around £420.
As you can get cases on ebay, or from amazon, on deal days ,clearence etc, or you might just want to use an old one somebody is throwing out. I've seen em for £15 delivered.
I picket a micro atx board here, so it should fit in any normal size case you come across.This build will play any single player games well, and you could switch to a quad core later and that would nail it at top end.
