New fan from I5 on old cpu

hello all, i upgraded to a new i5 2500k and i used the corsair a70 cpu fan on it after a little modification to help the right side fan clear my memory sticks. anyways, i'd like to use my old hardware in a different case, can the cpu fan that came with the new I5 work on my old amd athlon 64fx or whatever it was?
Ive got every EXCEPT a cpu fan to get this other PC going with old parts to put in my shop for internet access out there,
i know i can get a cheap cpu fan but why spend 20-30 buck on something i already have, if it will work.

No, it won't work is the easy answer for a multitude of reasons. Buy a new cooler, they are pretty cheap for a stock cooler and not much more for a good cooler.

Intel and AMD don't play together nice, even when it comes to CPU coolers

and your stock cooler will not work i guess coz of different manufacturers and i dont think intel will make their cooler to support amd too :-D
