Question New GPU failing to POST ?

last month i build a new pc consisting of a YESTON 7800xt. originally it would not POST. for whatever reason a fresh install of windows allowed the card to post. but of course a fresh install has software that requires a system restart. that restart stopped the card from posting no matter the amount of troubleshooting i did.

  • i cleared the cmos a few times
  • reinstalled drivers using DDU
  • updated window 10->11
  • reinstalled windows 10
  • updated both windows 10 and 11
  • updated bios
  • checked cable connections
  • reseated the card numerous times.
  • 1 stick of ram, 2 sticks of ram if every slot combination possible, etc etc you get the point

really the only thing i didn’t try was a different PCIE slot.

but everything pointed to a bad card, so i RMA’d the card. ( both my old GPU (rx 580) and integrated graphics would post and play). i ended up getting a 7900xt. same issue it will not post. i ended up buying a new MOBO ( aorus elite ax ice b650 -> aorus x870 ice elite wifi 7 ) this also did not fix the problem.

kinda at a lost from where to go from here (other than trying different PCIE slots) one thing i did notice is that my RAM is NOT on my motherboards QVL list. although im able to use EXPO and the ram works fine, could this cause an issue with the 7000 series cards?

BOTH cards had their LEDS and fans both on. on the x870 MOBO i get error code 97. in the manual it says “Console Output devices connect. (ex. monitor is lighted)”. please ANY and ALL support is appreciated.

SPECS:
CPU Ryzen 5 7600X
RAM: KLEVV CRAS RGB 6400mz 32gb
GPU(s) YESTON 7800xt, XFX MERC 310 7900xt
(current) MOBO: aorus x870 ice wifi 7
PSU: EVGA Supernova GT 1000w gold.
(no i’m not daisy chaining the PCIE power connectors)

thank you!

Welcome to the forums and Happy New Year, newcomer!

Did you install the OS in offline mode?

updated window 10->11
You should recreate your bootable USB installer for your OS, then with only the drive you wish to install the OS on, hooked to the motherboard, install the OS in offline mode(without the internet) and use this method;

to get past the OOBE issue, then install all drivers that are the latest version in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator. Yes you will need to download the latest drives beforehand.

RAM: KLEVV CRAS RGB 6400mz 32gb
Got a link to the ram you're using? Rams in slots A2 and B2?

PSU: EVGA supernova GT 1000w gold.
Is this unit recycled from an older build? If so, how old is it and what did it power throughout it's tenure?

Did you try dropping the GPU on the lower PCIe slots?

no i installed windows with internet. when im off work i will install windows in offline mode using the video you shared. as well as only having the boot drive in the PC.

the ram is currently in A2 B2. the link to the ram i purchased is : https://a.co/d/2hskJ66

the PSU was purchased new with all other components. i am also NOT using any cable extension's at the moment.

no i have not tried any different PCIE slots. it cannot fit in the case when in the second or third slot. but that was on my checklist i just haven’t had the time to take the board out the case recently.
