I think I was trying to point to the fact that Jane is teaching Grandma how to suck eggs, not that the the product is bad, if you are going to retort please try to understand WTF people are talking about

[citation][nom]moricon[/nom]Crap Resolution, Crap Metro Interface, Crap App collection (So far, this will improve to be fair) Quite high in cost compared to competition ( as much as I dislike Apple the new iPad is better ) and the biggest fail for a tablet..No GPS--Utter fail![/citation]
Learn to read a map. $10 can get you a nice one that will last for several years. The time not spent staring at the gps now allows you to observe your surroundings as you drive which greatly decreases your need for a map in the future.

[citation][nom]ojas[/nom]2. Proprietary HD out connector, "sold separately"[/citation]Oh WTF. I've been very supportive of the Surface so far, but I thought it had a mini-displayport. But no, Microsoft did a dick move and made some dumbass, proprietary "HD out" port that requires an adapter cable that runs $40 a pop to connect to anything?

Effing brilliant. Way to differentiate yourself from the dicks at Apple.

Did you know every hardware manufacturer had to pay royalties to use "standard" HDMI or mini-d port? And the royalties are NOT cheap. So not cheap that it affects the pricing of the tablet a lot. I would guess that for the user, the pricing with standard or custom adapters is about the same, considering you have to buy it. But when they advertise, the pricing is 30-50$ less... good thinking, but a little annoying.

[citation][nom]ojas[/nom]Yeah it will.But.My problems with the RT:1. $100+ bucks for a cover/keyboard???2. Proprietary HD out connector, "sold separately"3. I'm not sure how good the "touch cover" will be for typing, and how much does the "type cover" cost?Seeing that they're selling the surface RT at a profit, i think you should have got the full package (choice of touch/type cover + the HD out connector) at $550.I think the Pro model is brilliant by comparison, if its battery can offer 8 hours of work (note making, reading, video playback, occasional word processing, giving presentations, etc). And yes, if it sells for $800 WITH the cover.I mean, the pro has USB 3.0, mini DisplayPort, the stylus/digital pen/whatever they're calling it is included, too. And an IVB i5, 4GB RAM, a 1080p display, slightly heavier but i couldn't really care.[/citation]

the Surface Pro is rated for 4-5 hours I believe (what you would get from an ultrabook)

Of course they did this knowing that you can just get a third-party player like VLC and dodge the issue, so they didn't hurt any users. Either way, I think you'll find most people are clueless regarding royalties. If you know less than 5% of your users are interested in a certain feature, why make everyone pay for it?

The Pro model has it, though.

Yeah but it's convenient to use a common cable adapter/cable between devices that follow the same standards. Like the Pro has a miniDP, so if i get a miniDP to DVI/VGA/HDMI cable, it can be used with both our macbook AND the pro.

If that's true...then that kinda sucks 🙁

[citation][nom]otacon72[/nom]Except it runs a real OS and you can run real software on it. You're an idiot.[/citation] idiot? At what point *DID* I say it wasn't a real OS? Gee, I can run software on my Phone... wow, amazing.

I asked the simple question, what does the RT do over an iPad3? Its substandard in hardware and in software.

Wouldn't call it substandard. Just priced maybe $50-$100 too high with the cover. I think the $500 is fine for the tablet, but $100-$120 for the cover is too much.

But yeah, you can, for example, expand its storage and connect a printer/USB drive/360 controller/etc just by plugging it in. Connect it to the TV and you have a mini console.

Also office+keyboard 😛

OK! now that was a great commercial! The first one just confused me, this one actually sets it apart from apple, instead of competing with it, it showcases its strong points. Finally, something MS did right :)

Sure! Why don't I just get rid of my internet service then! I can go down to my local library! Or heck, I'll just chuck my whole computer, my calculator. Abacuses are cheap, right? My car? psh, I can get up an extra hour and a half earlier to walk to work. Who needs modern conveniences?
