Pc
Ryzen 5 3600x
Sapphire 5700xt nitro +
32gb ddr4 3600mghz ram
WD nvme 250gb for OS
4gb HDD
Rm750x
Asus b450f gaming motherboard

I am trying to install a second m.2 to the second slot on my motherboard. When it’s installed the pc won’t boot windows. When I take the NEW drive out my pc boots up fine. I’ve tried switching the SATA cable from my HDD to other positions and still same result. Is it possible to run another nvme with my setup? If so please tell me how I can fix this issue and if not any recommendations on how to upgrade storage?

Btw I’m not trying to change the OS. I’m just trying to add more storage for games.

Thanks!

Can you boot into windows without new M.2 drive connected and show screenshot
from Disk Management?

I'd suspect, you have bootloader located on HDD.
When adding second M.2 drive, sata ports SATA5, SATA6 get disabled.
If HDD is connected to any of those ports, then after adding 2nd M.2 drive your system becomes unbootable.
My OS is on the WD 250gb nvme right below the cpu

Bootloader is located on 250GB drive - together with OS partition.
Does your system boot without HDD connected?

Edit:
Oh - you have completely run out of free space on Windows OS partition.
Pagefile is located on HDD. If HDD is not available, this will certainly prevent booting into windows.

Free up some space on windows OS partition.

How do I free up space on OS partition? And will this allow me to plug and play my new nvme?

When I open up command prompt do I need to press enter or space or just type it right away?
Read instructions from link in post #39 on, how to open elevated command prompt.
Then enter command and press enter.
powercfg /h off

Cool.
Now boot into BIOS and check boot priority settings.
Make a screenshot.

Then shut down.
Add second M.2 drive.
Boot into BIOS and check boot priority settings again.
If settings have changed after adding second M.2 drive, then you have to change them back manually.

Ok while I’m adding my new nvme where should my HDD SATA be plugged into?

Load into recovery environment - command prompt (after advanced repair options).
Execute following and show screenshot with command output.
diskpart
list disk
select disk 0
list partition
select disk 1
list partition
select disk 2
list partition
list volume
