i had wondered if that was just something that would work itself out as migration completed. but so far seems like most of those old counts have gone bye bye.

guess we all start with level playing field on the new forum....

From what it was described as, lets say there was a thread with CPU, MOBO, and GPU tags.
Previously you would get 1 BA, and 1 point for each badge.
Now you get 1 BA and 1 point for 1 trophy, so no more stacking.

That being said, the totals seem drastically lower considering some trophies top posters have <250 points.

what do we do about the times when someone creates a thread, then gets a solution to their problem/answer to their question and say "thanks" but don't select a "Best Answer"?

I mean, I would normally think to say at the end "Glad to know that your problem has be solved, please consider selecting one of the responses by one of the members as "Best Answer" in order to help others looking for a solution to the same question"

But last time I checked, doing so was considered in poor taste and frowned upon by the staff.

Upvote the best answer you see in any thread you are in. After a certain period of time (I forget exactly - 2 months maybe?) the answer with the highest votes 5 or more will auto select as best answer, if the OP hasn't selected one. Also Moderators can select BA's you can always ask one of us if we aren't already in there.

There is no application process, its more one of those "don't call us, we will call you" type of things. Just keep doing good things here and if a need arises more moderators may be added to the team and maybe your chance may come.

Is it possible for the alerts page to be split into tabs or categories? I had 36 alerts when I logged in today, and it would be nice if they split into different things like
  • Replies to your posts/Someone quoted your answer
  • New threads in forums you follow
  • Likes
Then I could tell if I had looked at everything I needed to. I don't know where to start with the way it is.
Alerts seems to get over used.

Actually we've changed this. Now whenever a response gets 5 upvotes it automatically receives the best answer. This best answer will "lock" after 30 days. If any other response gets more upvotes than the current best answer this post will be the new best answer.

humm anyone noticed the edit toolbar is no longer working this morning ?

Not a fan of all the changes personally; especially removing the forum posts from the bottom of the main page to look at the latest postings across all areas. Oh well, I enjoyed the site for around 6 years, time to move on.

okay another thing that is starting to be annoying... when we used to get alerts we clicked on first one, got the forum message and when clicked on alerts again that messages was set as "read"
now the alerts just stay piled up in the box that you read them or not. forcing to scroll down the listing for next message or click show all …

I wish I had taken a screen shot yesterday, I had same thread appearing 3 times in the alerts menu, I had looked at all 3 replies.

I dislike how it shows how many alerts you have and then second you open the menu, the number goes away. So I have no idea if I have looked at everything

You better off using the menu Threads with your posts to make sure you answered everything.

I wonder if there is an alerts add on that can make it more useful. As current version is under strain from too many things using it. Nice if it broke the alerts into categories or tabs in the drop down.

Yes, alerts are totally messed up. I found if I don't put any sub forums on Watch status, you don't get nearly as many alerts, which is fine until they can manage to arrange them like they were before. Quite frankly Watch doesn't work the way I'd like it to anyway.

Colif made an excellent thread about Best Answers please share this

About trophies.
I have noticed that most posters with many trophies are Storage Authorities. Including me. That means 50+ Best answers in that forum. I know I haven't even posted that many times in the Storage forum.
Only a few are Storage Expert (10+ BA), and they are usually both Expert and Authority, which makes sense, but also makes the trophy field cluttered, and seems pointless, since obviously you must have 10 BA before you can reach 50.
If you click the Storage Trophy icon you find that 34,500+ such trophies have been awarded, while only 22 Storage Expert (right now) have been awarded. 34,500 x 50 BA = 1,725,000 Best answers, in the Storage forum. At the same time, at the Forum list, there has been a total of 797,600 posts in the Storage forum.
Possibly other trophy points have been calculated as Storage points. This can be a starting point, when time comes, unless devs have already seen it.

Dark Lord of Tech should add my Best Answer post to his sig, I think many of his likes should be Best Answers. It might fix future ones.
Trophies don't make any sense unless you realise that many old Best Answers didn't map well against the new Trophies, so while your total might be close to what you had before, trophy allocation may not make any sense.
They did the best they could.
