Well, your power supply is pretty much trash at this point and there's not much point in trying to upgrade the parts you have. Since you don't have much to lose you could try an adapter to see if it works. If it fails it should just shut down the system but there's always a chance things can get dammaged so proceed from here knowing the risks invloved.

List your detailed system specs and the brand, model and age of the power supply.
I only know this much bout the psu: 350 watts and presumably 10 years old :/
